Step 2: Trim splinter guard
Now you are ready to set up the guide rail system. The first
thing to do is to trim the splinter guard of the guide rail using
your Festool plunge-cut saw.
Place your saw on top of the guide rail and tune it to the track
on the rail using a screwdriver (3.3) to loosen or tighten the
front and back set screws so that there is no play between
the sole plate of the saw and the raised portion of the guide
rail. However, make sure the saw still glides smoothly on top
of the guide rail.
Adjust the speed of the saw (3.2) to a setting of "6" (maximum
speed). Set the depth of cut, using the depth stop adjustment
(3.1), to 8 mm (5 mm for the thickness of the guide rail plus
3 mm cutting depth) and cut the splinter guard along the full
length without interruption.
For trimming the splinter guard it is best to use some sort of
backing piece, such as plywood or fiberboard.
The edge of the splinterguard now corresponds exactly to the
cutting edge.
Step 3: Set up the guide rail support
The table comes from the factory with two stops (4.3, 5.1)
pre-set on the long sides of the profile frame, opposite each
other. These are recommended working positions for the rail
support (4.2) and hinged rail holding device (4.4).
NOTE: During transport it is possible that the set-screws
holding the stops may have loosened. If this is the case, you
will have to position and retighten the registering stops. Facing
the front of the table, the measurement for the stop is 8 1/4"
from the side face of the profile frame at the right side of the
table. Facing the rear, the stop is approximately 7" from the
side face at the left side of the table.
The hinged rail holding device (4.4) is mounted on the rear
long side, the rail support (4.2) on the front long side.
Both units are inserted into the the profil groove from the left
up to the stops with the height adjustment (4.4) and the
rotary knob (4.1) released, and then clamped with the rotary
knob (4.1).
Step 4: Attach guide rail
To attach the guide rail to the hinged rail support, loosen the
screws (5.2) on the underside of the support plate (5.4) [using
the hex wrench (1.6) located in the angle unit] and slide the
guide rail on to the feather key (5.3), aligning the end of the
guide rail flush with the support plate (5.4). Tighten in this
position the screws (5.2) with hex wrench (1.6).
Lower the guide rail onto the rail support so that the groove
in the underside of the guide rail fits on to the pin (4.5) of the
rail support unit. The guide rail is properly attached when
only a very slight lateral pressure is necessary for the pin to
engage into the guide rail.
The rail deflector (6.1) is pushed onto the end of the guide
rail. Close the rotary knob (6.2). The rail deflector prevents
that suction hose and power cable will hook on the guide rail.
