Before Use

WARNING: Ensure the sander is disconnected from the power supply
before attaching or changing any accessories.
• This sander is supplied fully assembled, apart from the accessory for
dust extraction
Connecting the dust bag
• Prior to use, fit the Dust Bag (5) to the Dust Extraction Port (6)
WARNING: Remove and DO NOT use the Dust Bag when sanding metal.
Hot metal particles and sparks could ignite residual wood dust, or cause the
bag to catch fire. Always clean the tool THOROUGHLY when switching from
sanding wood to sanding metal, and vice versa.
Selecting the right grade of sanding belt
• Coarse (40 grit) for use on rough material
• Medium (80 and 100 grit) for smoothing off
• Fine (120 grit) for finishing
Note: Use good quality sanding belts to maximise the quality of the finished
task. Always test the sander on a scrap piece of material to determine that
the sanding belt is suitable for the intended task.
Note: After sanding with a belt sander, an orbital sander can be used
to provide a smoother surface finish. This process will, however, lead to
the loss of wood grain detail. Additional sanding with an orbital sander is
advisable if you plan on painting the wooden surface, or if you do not need
to maintain the visibility of the wood grain.
Changing the sanding belt
WARNING: Always switch off and disconnect from the power supply before
changing the sanding belt.
1. Lift the Belt Tension Lever (11) up, to release the tension on the belt
and slide off the old belt
2. Choose a new sanding belt according to the information provided in
the paragraph 'Selecting the right grade of sanding belt'
3. Check that the replacement belt has a good join and is not frayed at
the edges
4. Slip the new belt over the rollers with the rotation arrow on the inside
of the belt pointing in the same direction as the arrow on the sander
5. Push the belt tension lever down to re-tension the belt
6. Connect the sander to the power supply
7. Holding the sander firmly in an upside-down position, pull the On/Off
Trigger Switch (3) and allow the belt to rotate for a short period
8. Whilst the belt is running, adjust the Tracking Adjustment Dial (8) to
correctly align the belt to the centre of the plate
9. Run the sander for approximately one minute to confirm the belt
alignment is correctly set
WARNING: DO NOT use the sander with a sanding belt that is worn or
damaged.
WARNING: DO NOT use the same sanding belt for wood and metal. Metal
particles can become embedded in the belt and scratch a wooden surface.
Operation
WARNING: Always wear eye protection, adequate respiratory and hearing
protection, as well as suitable gloves, when working with this tool.
Switching on and off
WARNING: Never switch on the belt sander when the belt is in contact with
the workpiece or any other surface, as this might cause the operator to lose
control over the machine, and lead to serious injury.
1. Connect the sander to the mains power supply
2. Pull the On/Off Trigger Switch (3) upward to start the sander. Release
the On/Off Trigger Switch to stop the machine
3. To keep the motor running continuously, pull and hold the On/Off
Trigger Switch and press the Lock-On Button (4)
4. Pull and release the On/Off Trigger Switch to stop the motor running
continuously
Sanding
Note: This sander is designed for sanding wood, metal, plastic and similar
materials. It is used mainly for quick removal of large amounts of material.
1. Sand the workpiece in overlapping strokes, always in parallel to the
grain
2. To remove paint or smooth very rough wood, sand across the grain at
45° in two directions, then finish in parallel to the grain
Note: The sander's design with flush side enables sanding right up to
perpendicular surfaces.
3. Use the Front Belt Roller (9) only to sand corners or irregular shapes
4. Always lift the sander off the workpiece prior to switching off
WARNING: The sanding belt will continue to run for a short time after the
On/Off Trigger Switch (3) is released. Keep hands clear of the belt and do
not put the machine down until the motor has stopped completely.
Emptying the dust bag
WARNING: Always switch off and disconnect from the power supply before
detaching the dust bag.
1. Pull the Dust Bag (5) off the Dust Extraction Port (6)
2. Open the Dust Bag, empty and clean
3. Refit to the Dust Extraction Port
Note: If the sanding dust contains harmful substances, such as particles
from old paint, varnish, surface coatings etc., always dispose of these
according to the relevant laws and regulations.
WARNING: For optimum dust removal, empty the dust bag when it is no
more than half full.
Note: Always clean the tool THOROUGHLY when switching from sanding
wood to sanding metal and vice versa.
