2. Commissioning

Place the soldering tool in the holder. Insert compressed air hose with 6 mm outer diameter
in the quick action coupling for the compressed air connection (12). Provide supply of
compressed air with 600 kPa (87 psi) dry, oil-free compressed air. Plug the electrical lead
from the soldering tool in the 7 pole socket (9) on the front panel and lock. Position the main
filter (6) with the hose joint between the vacuum connection (8) and the vacuum connection
on the desoldering tool. Check that the mains voltage matches that on the rating plate and
that the mains switch (1) is in the off position. Plug the control unit into the mains (10).
Switch on the unit at the mains switch (1). When the unit is switched on, a self-test is
performed during which all the indicators (2) are illuminated.
The temperature set (required value) and the temperature scale (ºC/ºF) are then briefly
displayed. The electronics then switch automatically to the display of the actual value. The
red dot (5) on the display (2) illuminates. This dot serves as an optical regulation monitor.
Continuous illumination means that the system is heating up. Flashing indicates that the
operating temperature has been reached. The vacuum necessary for desoldering is activated
by the integrated finger switch on the soldering iron.
Setting the Temperature
Ordinarily the digital display (2) indicates the actual temperature. When the "Up" or "Down"
button (3) (4) is operated the digital display (2) switches to the display of the required value
currently set. The required value set (flashing display) can be changed in the corresponding
direction by repeatedly pressing or holding down the "Up" or "Down" button (3) (4). The
required value can be changed more quickly by holding the button down. Approx. 2 sec. after
releasing the button the digital display (2) switches automatically back to the actual value. It
is not possible to make changes to the setting on a locked soldering station (LOCK).
Standard setback
If the soldering tool is not used within a period of 20 minutes the temperature will be
automatically reduced to a standby temperature of 150 °C (300 °F). After three setback
periods (60 min.) the "AUTO OFF" function will be activated and the soldering iron will be
switched off.
Activating the standard setback function: When switching on the unit press the "UP" button
(3) until "ON" appears in the display. Use the same process to switch the unit off. "OFF" will
appear in the display (state upon delivery).
The use of very fine soldering tips may have a negative effect on reliable function.

Vacuum delay
After the finger switch is released the vacuum remains active for approx. 2 seconds.
Setting: When switching on, hold the "DOWN" key (4) until ON or OFF appears in the display.
Repeat this step to change.
Maintenance
To obtain good soldering results it is important to regularly clean the desoldering head. This
includes emptying the tin collection container, replacing the glass tube filter, as well as checking
the seals. Correct sealing of the front face of the glass cylinder ensures full suction
performance. Dirty filters affect the flow of air through the soldering tool. The main filter (6)
(hose-mounted filter in the vacuum hose) should therefore be checked regularly and replaced
if necessary. Use a new original WELLER filter cartridge for this purpose. To clean the bore in
the suction nozzle and the suction tube, use the cleaning tool (5 13 500 99).
The suction nozzles can be replaced quickly and easily with a short turning movement (approx.
45°).
Large deposits in the area of the cone will prevent the insertion of a new suction nozzle.
Deposits can be removed with the cleaning insert for the heating element cone.
Warning: Working without a filter will irreparably damage the compressed air converter.

3. Equipotential bonding

The various circuit elements of the 3.5 mm jack bush (7) make 4 variations possible:
Hard-grounded:
No plug (delivery form)
Equipotential bonding:
With plug, equalizer at center contact (impedance 0 ohms)
Potential free:
With plug
Soft-grounded:
With plug and soldered resistance.
Grounding via set resistance value.
