2.3.2 Lifting from / to laying position (example bed, ...)

CAUTION:
Risk of injury – Lifting heavy patients can cause back strain. For your
own and the patient's comfort, use the bed's lifting and lowering functions.

CAUTION:
Risk of falling – If you turn the patient on his side make sure you do
this gently. Be sure that you can control your movements and do not let the
patient roll out of the bed.
The patient can be lifted from the laying position by following the instructions below:
1. If the bed is adjustable, place it in the desired position by the lifting and lowering
functions.
2. Roll the patient towards you on his side.
3. Place the edge of the folded sling under the patient.

4. The middle of the back of the sling shall be positioned close to the spine of the
patient. (

5. Gently turn the patient over his back on his other side.
6. Fold the sling open, away from the patient.
7. Roll the patient back on his back.
8. Position the legrests under each leg. Push the legrests against the mattress and pull
the legrests under the thigh.
9. Check that the legrests are firmly round the leg.

10. Choose the most suited method to attach the legrest: crossed legrests, crossed
under both thighs, each legrest separately on the spreader bar (S
cover page, Fig 1 until 6
11. Put the head rest of the bed in upright position.
12. Roll the patient hoist over the bed.
13. Rotate the spreader bar in the correct position above the patient
Be careful that the spreader bar is not too low to touch the patient.
14. Use the loops to mount the straps to the patient hoist. First place the mounting straps
of the backrest

15. Lift the patient to the desired place.
