Installing an internal battery or
connecting to an external battery

Turn off the energiser before connecting it to
a battery.
Installing an internal battery
Use a battery as specified in the previous section.
1 Place the energiser on a flat surface. Open the lid of
the energiser by pushing the side latch.
Remove any loose parts from the battery
compartment.
2 Remove the special battery label to activate the
battery (failure to do this will reduce the battery life).
3 Place the battery in the battery compartment.
4 Connect the positive (+ red) lead from the battery to
the positive (+) terminal inside the lid of the energiser.
5 Connect the negative (- black) lead from the battery to
the negative (-) terminal inside the lid of the energiser.

6 Replace the lid of the energiser.
Note: The battery must always be in the upright position.

Connecting to an external battery
A special battery connection cable is required in order
to connect the energiser to a 12 V external battery
(Ref. 159101).
Warning!

Ensure that the battery is disconnected from the
energiser before connecting the battery to any
mains-operated battery charging device. Failure
to observe this precaution could result in damage
to the energiser and possible electrocution.

When a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sheathed cord
is used to connect the energiser to an external
battery, the equipment must be located in a
shelter and must not be handled when the
ambient temperature is below +5 °C.

Batteries contain harmful chemicals and when
used incorrectly, may cause injury. Observe the
guidelines for battery care, maintenance and
safety in this manual and in the documentation
supplied with your battery.
Battery charging

Do not attempt to recharge a non-rechargeable
battery.

When recharging a battery, ensure that there
is adequate ventilation to allow gases to disperse.
