10. DCF RECEPTION

The DCF signal is a signal that is sent by a
transmitter in Mainflingen (near Frankfurt on the
Main). Its range is up to 1500 km and if
transmission conditions are ideal even up to
2000 km.
Among other things, the DCF signal includes the
precise time (theoretical deviation of 1 second in
a million years!) and the date.
This means you do not have to switch manually
between daylight savings time and normal time
at the basis station; the time is adjusted
automatically.
For summer time, "DST" is displayed (= "Daylight Saving Time" = summer time).
The first DCF reception attempt is performed (icon "
of the display if a DCF signal is recognised) if you have inserted batteries in the basis
station and the basis station has completed search for the outdoor sensor (after
about 5 minutes).
Search for the DCF signal and its evaluation will take about another 5 minutes.
Do not move the basis station during this time and do not press any buttons.
A DCF reception attempt is performed at 02:00 a.m. and p.m. each. A single successful
reception per day will keep the deviation of the quartz clock in the basis station
below a second.
If no correct time is displayed at initial commissioning even after 10 minutes due to
reception problems, start a new reception attempt. Either briefly press the button
"RESET" (11) on the rear of the basis station or remove the two batteries for a few
seconds.
Alternatively, you may also press the button "SNOOZE/LIGHT" for about 3 seconds.
If no DCF reception is possible at the basis station setup site, set the time
manually; see chapter 11. a).
