PREPARING THE COFFEE
• Fill the jug with cold water up to the level (marked
on the drip coffee side of the jug) which corre-
sponds to the number of cups of coffee required
(fig. 3).
Warning: never exceed the 10 cup line to avoid
water leaking from the machine's rear slots.
• Pour the water into the tank (fig. 4). (The amount
of coffee obtained will be slightly less than the
amount of water poured into the tank because
some of the water remains in the coffee powder
and some is lost in steam).
• Place the jug on the hotplate (S) making sure the
lid is on. The perforations in the lid serve to pre-
serve the coffee's aroma, which is why the lid
should be raised on the handle side in order for it
to be opened. (fig.3)
• Put the coffee in the filter by using the measuring
cup supplied and level it off uniformly (fig. 5). As
a general rule, use a level measure of coffee
(approx. 7 gr.) for each cup required (e.g. 10
measures to obtain 10 cups). However, the
amount of coffee to be used can vary according
to personal taste.
Use good quality medium ground coffee specially
for coffee percolators.
• Close the lid and press the "coffee" switch (fig. 6).
The red "ON" light on the left of the switch shows
that the machine is working. The coffee will begin
to emerge after a few seconds and will finish
doing so at the sound of the characteristic gurgle
which means the percolating has finished.
It is entirely normal for the machine to emit steam
during the coffee percolating or for a few drops of con-
densation to form around the lid. By leaving the "coffee"
switch pressed after percolating, the hotplate (S) will keep
the coffee in the jug at just the right hot temperature.
PREPARING A CAPPUCCINO
Filling the Boiler with Water
• Unscrew the boiler cap (D) by turning it in an anti-
clockwise direction.
• Fill the measuring jug (K) with water up to the 170
g – 6 oz line (fig. 7).
• Pour it slowly into the boiler, first making sure that
the "cappuccino" switch is off and that the steam
knob is turned off. When it is filled like this the
boiler provides enough water for between 15 and
20 cappuccinos.
• Warning: if the boiler is filled while it is hot (for
example when the water runs out while a cap-
Pagina 7
puccino is being made) pour in only the amount
of water shown above and NEVER TRY TO FILL
THE BOILER UP TO THE MAX 170 g – 6 oz MARK
(fig. 8) otherwise the milk will not froth properly.
• Next close the boiler cap by turning it firmly
clockwise.
Note: for safety reasons it is not possible to open
the cap when the boiler is warm because it turns
without unscrewing; it is necessary to wait for all
the water contained in the boiler to be comple-
tely used up in order to fill it, or else to wait for
the boiler to cool down.
Further Boiler Refills
• Further boiler refills must be carried out as descri-
bed in the previous paragraph and ONLY when
the water in the boiler has completely run out.
Preparing "Italian Coffee" for Cups of Cappuccino
• First press the "cappuccino" switch so that the
steam boiler heats up while the "Italian Coffee" is
prepared (fig. 9).
• Fill the jug with cold water up to the level shown
on the jug on the "Italian Coffee" side, to obtain
the required number of cups of cappuccino (from
1 to 4 cups of cappuccino, fig. 10). Warning:
never exceed the MAX line shown on the jug as
this could cause the"Italian Coffee" to leak out
while the machine is working.
• Pour the water in the jug into the tank (fig. 4) and
do not place the jug on the hotplate.
• Put the coffee into the filter and level it off uniformly.
As a general rule, use two measures of coffee (7 +
7 grams; 1/4+1/4 oz.) for each cup of cappucci-
no required. However, the amount of coffee to be
used can vary according to personal taste. The type
of coffee used can be filter coffee or moka coffee; a
good Italian cappuccino is obtained with the latter.
• Close the coffee lid and press the "coffee" switch
(fig. 6).
• At the sound of the gurgle which means the per-
colating has finished, place the cup (not a plastic
one because the heat could cause it to deform) at
the centre of the hotplate (fig. 11).
• At this point, move the coffee dispenser switch to
the right so as to pour the coffee (approx. 60 cc;
2 fl. oz.) into the cup (fig. 11). The coffee ceases
to emerge automatically with the release of the
coffee dispenser switch.
Preparing the Milk for Cups of Cappuccino
(The "cappuccino" switch must be pressed down)
In order to make a cappuccino, pour milk which
is neither boiling nor hot into the tank. With the
