b. Open the valve to discard the deionized water from the sensor, then close the valve again.
4. Measure the Phenanthrene equivalent standard as follows:
a. Put the contents of the ampule into the empty vial. Touch the top edge of the ampule to the
top edge of the vial to pull the liquid into the vial.
b. Use a pipette to fill the sensor with the calibration standard.
c. Open the valve to discard the Phenanthrene equivalent standard from the sensor, then close
the valve again.
d. Use the pipette to fill the sensor with the calibration standard.
e. Put a plug in the fitting on the top of the sensor.
f. Wait approximately 20 seconds, then record the measurement.
5. If the recorded measurement is more than ± 5% different than the value of the Phenanthrene
equivalent standard, calibrate the sensor with the optional Calibration Kit. Refer to
calibration
on page 18.
Note: PAH = calibrated PAH × SCALE FACTOR. The SCALE FACTOR setting adjusts the PAH measurement
by a multiplier (0.01 to 9.99, default: 1.00). Refer to
6. Discard the open ampule.
7. Discard the contents of the vial.
4.6 Do a 1-point calibration
Chemical exposure hazard. Obey laboratory safety procedures and wear all of the personal protective equipment
appropriate to the chemicals that are handled. Refer to the current safety data sheets (MSDS/SDS) for safety
protocols.
Chemical exposure hazard. Dispose of chemicals and wastes in accordance with local, regional and
national regulations.
Notes:
• A 1-point calibration changes the default offset, which fine tunes the factory calibration.
• A 1-point calibration does not change the slope value.
Item to collect: Calibration standard or deionized water (0.0 ppb PAH)
1. Clean the sensor. Refer to
2. Select SENSOR SETUP > [select sensor] > CALIBRATE > 1 POINT MANUAL.
3. If the passcode is enabled in the security menu for the controller, enter the passcode.
4. Select an option.
Option
Description
ACTIVE
The controller outputs continue to represent the last measured value during the calibration
procedure.
HOLD
The controller outputs are held at the last measured value during the calibration procedure.
TRANSFER The controller outputs change to the transfer value during the calibration procedure. Refer to
the SC1000 Controller user manual to change the transfer value.
5. Put the supplied valve in the fitting on the bottom of the sensor. Make sure that the valve is
closed.
6. Rinse the sensor with deionized water as follows:
a. Fill the sensor with deionized water.
Configure the sensor unit
W A R N I N G
C A U T I O N
Clean the sensor
on page 22. Keep the sample tubing disconnected.
Do a 2-point
on page 14.
