Safety instructions

2.1

Principles

The operations shall be carried out
by qualified electricians or suitably
trained personnel according to
IEC/EN 60079-14 and engineer-
ing/development specialists
according to IEC/EN 60079-0.
The empty enclosure type S-TB are not
suitable for Zone 0 and Zone 20 hazardous
areas.
The requirements of the IEC/EN 60079-31
regarding excessive dust deposits and
temperature to be considered by the user.
They shall be used for their intended purpose
and in perfect and clean condition.
After the empty enclosure type S-TB has been
installed, it shall be tested and fully certified
by a testing authority or authorized person.
Observe the national safety rules and
regulations for prevention of accidents as
well as the safety instructions included in
these operating instructions and set in italics
the same as this text!

Conformity with standards

The empty enclosure type S-TB has been
designed, manufactured and tested by Cooper
Crouse-Hinds (CCH), according to the state of
the art and to DIN EN ISO 9001 and
EN ISO/IEC 80079-34.
References to standards and directives in these
operating instructions always relate to the latest
version. Other additions (e.g. details relating to
the year) shall be observed.

Field of application

Fully certified empty enclosures that have
been tested by a testing authority or
authorized person are suited for use
in hazardous areas in Zone 1/2 and
Zone 21/22 in accordance with
IEC/EN 60079-10-1 and IEC/EN 60079-10-2.
The enclosure materials employed, including the
exterior metal parts, are made of high-quality
materials which ensure a corrosion protection
and resistance to chemical sub-stances
corresponding to the requirements in a "normal
industrial atmosphere":
- special stainless steel
- brass
- plastic
In case of use in an extremely aggressive
atmosphere, please refer to manufacturer.

Use / Properties

The fully certified empty enclosure type
S-TB that has been tested by a testing authority/
authorized person is used for the distribution of
electric energy e.g. light circuits, heating
circuits, control circuits, intrinsically safe circuits
etc. (see technical data for temperature class,
explosion group, permissible ambient temperature).
The data as per point 3 and 4 shall be taken
into account with the use.
The responsibility for the suitability and
proper use of the empty enclosure
type S-TB lies with the user.

The painted empty enclosure type

used in areas with potential explosive dust
atmospheres if high or repeated charging
processes (e.g. air ions in the vicinity of high volt-
age electrodes, high speed flowing liquids and
pneumatic transfer of powders, and paper or
plastic foils transported by machines) are surely
excluded. Manual rubbing is not considered to
be a high charging process.
