2.5 Installation on E39/2 Vehicles
The "loading aid conversion kit" must be ordered separately in accordance with the Electronic Parts Catalogue
(EPC) for E39/2 vehicles with loading aid (option 412).
Preparation
Print out fault code memory.
Disconnect battery.
Remove roller blind.
Remove rear left side trim panel.
Remove seat cushion of rear bench seat.
Remove side upholstery on left of rear bench seat.
Remove both left-hand rocker panel (sill) strips (only E39/2 without on-board monitor radio)
Remove left-hand B-pillar trim panel (only E39/2 without on-board monitor radio)
Remove left-hand A-pillar trim panel (only E39/2 without on-board monitor radio)
Remove cover under instrument panel on left (only E39/2 LHD without on-board monitor radio)
Remove luggage compartment floor cover or loading aid.
Remove spare wheel cover or retaining rail for loading aid on left next to spare wheel well.
Remove battery cover.
Remove oddments tray above battery.
Open out fold-out page!

Remove locking pins that are mounted on the subwoofer.The locking pins are mounted later in the same openings
for securing the subwoofer.
Align subwoofer (1) on the rear side of the left-hand rear seat backrest (2) to the dimension a such that the upper
flange edge of subwoofer (1) rests on the upper edge (3) of rear seat backrest (2). Now mark the holes (4).
Dimension a = 30 mm

Drill carefully as the sheet metal surface may be uneven at this point.
Remove subwoofer (1), pilot drill the marked points to 3.5 mm dia. and then drill out to 9.5 mm dia.

Align retainers (1) over the three existing holes (2).Then, with the aid of the holes (3) in the retainers (1), mark two
drilling points each on the rear side of the left-hand rear seat backrest (4). Drill the marked points to 2.5 mm
secure retainers (1) with fillister head self-tapping screws 3.9x25 (5).

A coin or a large screwdriver for slotted head screws can be used to secure the subwoofer in position.
Place subwoofer (1) onto the securing points and secure with locking pins (2).
Connect white 3-pin pin housing (3) of subwoofer (1) to branch A4, white 3-pin socket housing of power supply
cable A.
Connect black 4-pin pin housing (4) of subwoofer (1) to branch B5, black 4-pin socket housing of speaker cable B.
Then route power supply cable A and speaker cable B to the corresponding connection locations in the vehicle
(see following figures D, E, F, G, H and Chapter 2. 1 Connection Overview of Auxiliary Wiring Harnesses).
