Cleaning and maintenance
Platinum plate
The sensing part of the electrode can be polished with finishing
abrasive bands, part no. B90X550. While polishing, take great
care not to bend the platinum plate.
In order to have reproducible and accurate results with the
electrode, a few physical and electrochemical treatments are
required. These treatments will depend on the last measurement
performed:
Mild Cleaning
• Place the electrode overnight in RENOVO•N Normal Clean-
ing Solution.
Degreasing
• Remove mineral oils by rinsing the electrode with trichloreth-
ylene and dabbing dry with a soft tissue.
• Remove organic oils by cathodic electrolysis in a hot alka-
line solution, e.g. 15 g/l NaOH + 50 g/l Na
Degassing
• Hydrogen produced during the electrolysis (see above) must
be removed. Dip the electrode in water at 60°C and flush with
pure nitrogen.
Chemical cleaning
• The electrode can be cleaned with a sulphochromic solution,
or with a boiling solution of hydrochloric acid.
Storage
•
Replace the protection cap, and store the electrode in
it's box at room temperature.
