3.0 Safety Measures

In order to avoid electrical shock, the valid safe-
ty and VDE regulations regarding excessive
contact voltages must receive the utmost at-
tention when working with voltages exceeding
120V (60V) DC or 50V (25V)rms AC. The val-
ues in brackets are valid for limited ranges (as
for example medicine and agriculture).
Please respect the following references:
• The instrument may only be connected to mains
power 230 V / 50 - 60 Hz
• Carry out visual instrument inspection prior to any
measurement
• Ensure that test leads and mains connection cable
are in perfect condition.
• Dangerous voltages may be present at UUT,
caused by voltage test.
The respective accident prevention regulations
established by the professional association for
electrical systems and equipment must be
strictly met at all times.
UUT must be voltage-free.
Only use original test probes, appropriate for
this test voltage to guarantee safe testing.
UNITEST High Voltage Tester supplies high
voltages of dangerous power. In accordance
with DIN VDE 0104, the following precautions
have to be met prior to testing:
• Blocking the dangerous area
• Place danger notice (Attention! High Voltage
Mortal Danger)
• Install warning lamps (red, green) to be easily
visible
• Install EMERGENCY-OFF switch into the mains
lead outside the dangerous area
• Electrical trained persons may only test under
supervision of specialist staff and have to be
trained regularly
Safety Measures
• Only use safety test probes requiring two-hand-
ed operation. Only hold one test probe in each
hand. Fixed single-pole connection of UUT and
working with only one test probe or holding both
test probes in one hand is not admissible.
• Do not touch UUT during testing. If required the
operator must be protected against unawared
UUT contact (e.g. covering with insulation
material)
If the operator's safety is no longer ensured the
instrument is to be put out of order and pro-
tected against use.
The safety is no longer ensured if the instrument:
• shows obvious damages
• does not carry out the desired measurements
• has been stored for too long under unfavourable
conditions
• has been subjected to mechanical stress during
transport.
Appropriate Usage
The instrument may only be used under those
conditions and for those purposes for which it
was built. For this reason, in particular the safe-
ty references,as well as the technical data
including environmental conditions and the
usage in dry environments must be followed at
all times.
The operational safety of the instrument is noi
longer guaranteedafter unauthorised modifi-
cations or changes.
The instrument may only be opened by an
authorised service technician, e.g. for fuse
replacement.
