5 Operation of the Speaker System

5.1 Power supply / recharging the battery

For power supply and/or for recharging the battery,
only use the power supply unit provided: Connect
the power supply unit to the jack DC IN (30) and to
a mains socket (230 V~ / 50 Hz) via the mains cable
provided. The power LED on the power supply unit
will light up.
Once the active speaker system has been con-
nected to a mains socket via the power supply unit,
the automatic battery charging is activated. The
LED CHARGE (28) will light up:
red:
battery being charged
green:
battery fully charged
For charging, it is not necessary to switch on the
speaker system with the POWER switch (29); how-
ever, it can be operated during the charging process.
The charge control circuit will prevent overcharge
of the battery; it is recommended, however, to dis-
connect the power supply unit from the mains
socket after charging if the speaker system is not
operated for a longer period of time to prevent
unnecessary power consumption.
Important: To prevent damage to the battery by
deep discharge and to prevent a reduction of the
battery life, please observe the following notes:
1. Always fully recharge the battery prior to initial
operation and after longer storage.
2. If the POWER switch (29) starts flashing dur-
ing battery operation, the battery is almost dis-
charged; recharge it as soon as possible.
3. Fully recharge the battery prior to longer stor-
age and at least every 2 months during storage.

5.1.1 Replacing the rechargeable battery

To prevent damage to the unit and the battery, only
replace a defective battery by one of the same
type!
1) Always disconnect the unit from the mains (dis-
connect the mains plug of the power supply
unit).
2) Release the four screws on the cover plate (31)
of the battery compartment, then remove the
cover plate.
3) Carefully remove the defective battery from the
compartment and disconnect the cables from
the contacts.
4) Connect the new battery: Connect the red cable
to the positive pole of the battery and the black
cable to the negative pole.
5) Insert the battery into the compartment and
screw on the cover plate again.
5.2 Connecting external sensors /
audio connections
Always switch off the active speaker system before
making any connections.
1) To extend the transmission range or to ensure
an optimum IR transmission even when the
speaker system is placed in an unfavourable
position, use one or two external IR sensors
IRS-200IR which will receive IR signals in addi-
tion to the integrated IR sensor (13) [reception
range of the external sensor and examples for
installation
pages 50 – 51]. Connect the jack
(9) of the sensor via the 10 m cable provided to
one of the SENSOR jacks (22) of the speaker
system, then secure the connectors with the
cap nuts.
When you have found the optimum position
for the sensor after performing a trial operation,
mount it on the wall or ceiling by means of its
bracket (8) via four screws. Release the locking
screws (10) of the bracket, adjust the inclination
angle of the sensor, then fasten the screws
again.
2) As audio sources, it is possible to connect a
microphone and a unit with line output level (e. g.
CD player or audio output of a laptop): Connect
the microphone to the 6.3 mm jack MIC IN (26)
and the line unit to the 3.5 mm jack AUX IN (27).
3) At the 3.5 mm jack AUX OUT (25), it is possible
to connect e. g. a recorder or another amplifier
system. At this output, the mixed signal
adjusted with the individual volume controls is
present. The controls MASTER (20) and TONE
(21) will not affect the AUX OUT signal.
