Pollution Degree 1
Zero or weak, dry and non-conductible contamination oc-
curs. The contamination does not impair the result.
Pollution Degree 2
Only non-conductible contamination occurs. Occasionally,
temporary conductibility due to moisture may occur. Loca-
tion of application, e.g.: industry, laboratory
Pollution Degree 3
Conductive contamination occurs, or dry, non-conductive
contamination occurs which will become conductive in
combination with condensation, moisture, etc. Location of
application, e.g. heavy industry, building sites, brief out-
door service.
Protection Degree
For electronic test and measuring instruments and other
equipment the
• protection of the equipment against ingress of solid fo-
reign objects and against harmful effects due to the in-
gress of water
is indicated by two digits after the abbreviation IPxx. The
first digit may range from 0 to 6 indicating the protection
against access to hazardous parts or ingress of objects. 0
signifies no protection, 6 signifies protection against entry
of dust. The second digit may range from 0 to 8 indicating
the protection against water ingress. 0 signifies no protec-
tion, 8 signifies protection against entry of water when
immersed.
