Checking the fuel level and topping up
Visually check the fuel level using the fuel level indicator (A5). If necessary, fill with fuel:
1.
Fill up when the unit is switched off and the engine cold.
2.
Unscrew the fuel tank cap (A6).
3.
Fill the fuel tank using a funnel, taking care not to spill any.
Do not overfill the tank (there should not be any fuel in the filler neck).
4.
Screw the fuel tank cap back on.
5.
All traces of fuel should be wiped off with a clean cloth.
4.5
Starting the welding set
Once you have completed the daily checks and carefully read the safety instructions and rules, turn the key (A7) to position "B" then
"C". The unit will start.
4.5.1
Manually start the welding set
If electric starting does not work, start the unit manually:
1.
Turn the starting and shut-down key (A7) to position "B".
2.
Actuate the solenoid valve (A8, I).
3.
Slowly pull the starter/recoil reel handle (A10) until there is some resistance, then let it return slowly.
4.
Pull the starter-recoil reel handle hard, quickly then let it return to its initial position slowly.
If the unit does not start, repeat the operation until the unit starts.
5.
Wait until the engine temperature starts to rise before using the unit.
6.
Actuate the solenoid valve (O).
4.6
Carry out welding
4.6.1
Select the electrode
The unit is designed to weld using electrodes of any type (rutile, basic, cellulose). The diameter of the electrode will depend on the
thickness of the material, the position of the part and the type of joint. Naturally, larger diameters require higher current and will
generate more heat during welding.
When making a weld, it is recommended to use smaller diameters and make several successive passes to reduce the weld flow.
4.6.2
Select the welding current
The welding current range is recommended by the electrode manufacturer and is indicated on the packaging of the electrodes: to
select the correct welding current, use the welding range selector (A11) and the welding current switch (A12).
4.6.3
Welding instructions
1.
Connect the earth cable plug to the "-" female terminal (A13) (or, for welding with the polarity reversed, to the "+" female
terminal (A14)).
2.
Connect the ground cable to the component to be welded.
3.
Connect the electrode holder cable plug to the "+" female terminal (or, for welding with the polarity reversed, to the "-"
female terminal).
4.
On the welding range selector (A11), select the required welding range.
5.
On the welding current switch (A12), select the welding current to match the position chosen on the welding range
selector.
6.
Carry out welding.
4.7
Using the electricity supplied
1.
Allow the unit speed to stabilize and the temperature to rise (approx. 3 to 5 min.).
2.
Connect the equipment to be used to the electrical sockets (A15) on the unit.
For France only: Our units are fitted with sockets where the earthing contact is made using side tabs.
In exceptional cases where the equipment is only fitted with an earthing pin, use an adaptor. After use,
always disconnect the adaptor and store it carefully, away from sources of moisture. Always ensure
that the socket cover on the unit is closed: risk of damage (loss of seal).
4.8
Stopping the welding set
1.
Disconnect the equipment used, taking care to close the cover for the unit's electrical sockets (A15).
2.
Allow the unit to run idle for 1 or 2 minutes.
3.
Move the key to position "A" (A7).
If the key fails, shut down the unit using the stop lever (
4.
Ensure the unit is properly ventilated and to avoid any risk of fire, wait for it to be fully cool (at least 30 minutes) before
covering it and storing it.
As a safety measure, maintenance should be performed on the generating set regularly and carefully by people who have the
necessary experience and are equipped with suitable tools, in respect of current regulations. The maintenance operations to be
carried out are detailed in the maintenance table. The interval for this is supplied as a guide and for generating sets operating with
fuel and oil which conform to the specifications given in this manual. The maintenance intervals can be shortened depending on the
generating set's operating conditions and requirements. It is important to note that the warranty shall not be valid if generating set
maintenance has not be performed correctly.
