from dirt, oil, lacquer or similar. Such conditions can distort the
measured value.
Should "OL" (for Overload) appear in the display, the measure-
ment range has been exceeded or the circuit being measured
is open-circuit.
In the "2 MOhm" and "20 MOhm" ranges, the display requires
some time to stabilise.
F Diode test / continuity test
For the measurement of diodes or semiconductor paths or for con-
tinuity testing, proceed as follows:
1. Connect the black test lead to the COM socket and the red test
lead to the "HzFOhm
2. Set the rotary switch to "
the object to be measured, a voltage-free semiconductor path,
the red test probe to the anode, the black probe to the cathode
(this being as a rule indicated by a coloured ring, spot or similar).
If a semiconductor path is tested in its forward direction, a volta-
ge from approx. 0.25 V (germanium) or 0.7 V (silicon) to 3.0 V (or
250 mV, 700 mV to approx. 3000 mV) will be measured provided
that the semiconductor path is not defective.
When the test probes are reversed, i.e. red to the cathode and
black to the anode, then the non-conducting direction of the se-
miconductor path is checked.
If "OL" is displayed, then the diode is in good condition. If, on
the other hand, a voltage value is displayed, then either the ob-
ject to be measured is incorrectly connected or it is defective.
In addition, in the case of measured values < 100 mV, an acou-
stic signal sounds.
3. This acoustic signal sounds also during continuity tests on resi-
stors of less than 75 Ohm.
