MAINTENANCE
ChANGING ThE PUMP LUBRICANT
See Figure 24.
NOTE: The pump was filled with lubricant at the factory.
Fill the crankcase with special Cat Pumps lubricant per
pump specifications listed below. Do not run pump without
lubricant in crankcase. Change initial fill after 50 hours of
run time. Thereafter, change lubricant every 3 months or
500 hour intervals.
To check lubricant:
 Place unit on a flat, level surface.
 The sight glass is located above the drain plug. There is
a red dot in the center of the glass.
 A lubricant level at the top of the red dot indicates lubri-
cant is at maximum level.
 A lubricant level at or below the bottom of the red dot
indicates lubricant is below desired level, and lubricant
should be added.
To change lubricant:
 Place a container under the pressure washer.
 Loosen the pump oil cap. Remove the oil drain plug and
drain the old lubricant.
NOTE: Drain the lubricant while the pump is still warm
but not hot. Warm lubricant will drain quickly and more
completely.
 Replace the oil drain plug. Tighten securely.
 Fill with 8.5 oz. (251 ml) of Cat Pumps Oil.
Type: ISO 68 Premium Grade High Pressure Pump Oil
Model AP31045 or Cat Pumps Part Number: 6201
 Replace pump oil cap and tighten securely.
NOTE: Consult hazardous waste management guidelines in
your area for the proper way to dispose of used lubricant.
ChECKING A FOULED SPARK PLUG
See Figure 25.
 Clean carbon deposits off the spark plug electrode using
a plug cleaner or wire brush. Replace the plug if worn or
reuse is questionable. For replacement spark plug, see
Product Specifications earlier in this manual or the ac-
companying engine manual, if applicable.
 Check electrode gap. The gap should be .6 mm - .7 mm.
Adjust the gap, if necessary, by carefully bending the side
electrode.
NOZZLE MAINTENANCE
See Figure 26.
Excessive pump pressure (a pulsing sensation felt while
squeezing the trigger) may be the result of a clogged or
dirty nozzle.
 Turn off the pressure washer and shut off the water
supply. Pull trigger to release water pressure.
 Remove the nozzle from the spray wand.
NOTE: Never point the spray wand at your face.
 Using a straightened paper clip or nozzle cleaning tool
(not provided), free any foreign materials clogging or
restricting the nozzle.
 Using a garden hose, flush debris out of nozzle by back
flushing (running the water through the nozzle backwards
or from the outside to the inside).
 Reconnect the nozzle to the spray wand.
 Turn on the water supply and start the engine.
LONG-TERM STORAGE OF ThE PRESSURE
wAShER
See Figures 27 - 28.
NOTE: Regular use of fuel stabilizer and pump protector
will give you better performance of the unit and increase
the life of the pump. See the Replacement Parts List for
available sizes and part numbers of these items and call
customer service to order.
Allow 30 minutes of "cool down" time before storing the
machine. Store in a dry, covered area where the weather
can't damage it.
It is important to store this product in a frost-free area. Always
empty water from all hoses, the pump, and the detergent
bucket before storing.
 Disconnect the spray wand from the trigger handle and
place in spray wand storage.
 Remove the auxiliary handle from the trigger handle and
reinstall in the storage position.
 Remove the nozzle holder from the trigger handle. Place
the trigger handle in the trigger handle storage location.
NOTE: The nozzle holder can now be reinstalled on the
trigger handle.
 Drain the fuel tank completely by running the pressure
washer until the gas runs out. Stored gas can go stale in
30 days.
NOTE: Make sure the water supply is connected and
turned on when allowing the pressure washer engine to
run.
 Make sure the on/off switch and fuel valve are in the OFF
position.
 Disconnect the water connection.
 Empty the pump by pulling on the starter grip and rope
about 6 times. This should remove most of the liquid from
the pump.
NOTICE:
The use of a pump protector is strongly recom-
mended after each use and before storing to pre-
vent cold weather and seal damage during storage.
 Drain the oil and replace with fresh, clean oil as described
in Changing the Engine Lubricant earlier in this manual.
 Disconnect spark plug wire and remove the spark plug.
Pour about a teaspoon of clean, air-cooled, four-cycle
