1.
Get the correct AC cordset. Speak to an Authorized Battery Service Dealer for
options.
2.
Install the receptacle end of the AC cordset onto the AC input of the charger. This
connection is located at the back of the charger.
3.
Install the plug end of the AC cordset into the appropriate AC power outlet.
4.
The charger will start automatically and the On Charge (red) and End Charge
(green) LEDs will flash from one LED to the other LED.
Connect the charger to the battery that will be charged:
1.
Get the correct DC cordset as identified by the battery-powered equipment OEM
(Original Equipment Manufacturer).
2.
Install the socket end of the DC cordset to the charger.
3.
Install the PIN end of the DC cordset to the receptacle of the vehicle or application
harness. The On Charge LED stays on and the End Charge LED goes off.
NOTICE The charger display will cycle through output current, output voltage, charge
time (in hours), and charged amp-hour continuously (see the Display Panel section for
LED locations and descriptions).
4.
The charger automatically terminates the charge cycle when the battery reaches

NOTICE The battery amp-hour capacity, depth of discharge, battery temperature, age of
the battery, and battery usage will affect the charge time.
5.
Disconnect the AC and DC power cordsets from the charger, vehicle application,
and AC outlet.
6.
Return the charger to an appropriate storage location.

The Vanguard
3000W Battery Charger is equipped with a User Display Panel (A,
Figure 3). The user display panel consists of the following:

When you charge a battery, the display screen (B, Figure 3) enters data-roll mode and
intermittently shows the information that follows.
NOTICE To lock the display on one of the data-roll modes in the list that follows, push
the MODE button (E) during data-roll mode.

EVENTUAL NON-BLOCKING ALARMS: See Alarms section.
NOTICE In case of chargers in parallel, the display shows the most important alarm
which is active on the paralleled modules.
2.
NUMBER OF CHARGERS: The number of chargers that are connected
together — this will appear in the format "BCx" where x is the number of parallel
chargers. The number shows on the 'Master' charger only.
3.
VOLTAGE: Of the battery — upper two-tone LED (C) lights up as red.
CURRENT: Given by the charger — lower two-tone LED (C) lights up as red.
4.
NOTICE In case there are chargers in parallel, the display shows the total current of the
system (the sum of all the currents).
5.
TIME: In hours remaining to the end of the charge — upper two-tone LED (C) lights
up as green.
6.
Ah: The charged amp-hours supplied — lower two-tone LED (C) lights up as green.
NOTICE If there are chargers in parallel, the display shows the total amp-hour charged
by the system.

Operation
Operating Conditions
WARNING
Use and keep the battery in an area with good airflow, away from sparks, open
flames, or excessive heat.
WARNING
Do not use the equipment if the battery is submerged in water or water goes
into the battery or connectors. Contact an Authorized Battery Service Dealer for
instructions.
WARNING
Electrolytes from the battery can cause blindness and burns. DO NOT use the
battery if there is damage, leakage or burns. DO NOT use the battery if you hear
unusual noises, see smoke, or smell odors. DO NOT use the battery if the casing
is cracked, gashed, bulging, warped, or damaged.
NOTICE DO NOT use the battery outside of the correct temperature range. See your
battery manual for the correct operating conditions.

Charge only OEM or Vanguard
approved batteries of the same type, voltage,
cell number, and amp-hour capacities as shown on the label. Battery types not
matching label information or non-rechargeable batteries may burst causing
personal injury and damage.
The charger is factory-configured for use with Vanguard Lithium battery packs.
Display Behavior
The display behavior in relation to the charger status is described in the table that
follows. The charger status is given by the charger in the message ChrgStat (PGN
0xFFBC, bytes 0 and 1).
