Flushing and fi lling
/ Frost and corrosion protection
It is imperative that the collector is fi lled with corrosion-resistant antifreeze. For safety reasons, fi lling should be carried out
only during times without direct sunlight or with the collectors covered . The use of an adequately protective antifreeze-water
mixture is necessary, particularly in areas where frost is prevalent . In order to protect the materials from excessive thermal
load, the fi lling and commissioning of the system should be carried out as soon as possible, but after 4 weeks at the latest.
If this is not possible, the gaskets should be replaced before commissioning to prevent leaks . Antifreeze that does not come
pre-mixed must be mixed into a homogeneous mixture with water before fi lling!
Recommended antifreeze for fl at-plate collectors:
42% AF content (58% / water) - Freezing point: -22°C / Pour point: -26°C
50% AF content (50% / water) - Freezing point: -31°C / Pour point: -36°C
Once fi lled, it may not be possible for collectors to be emptied again completely. For this reason, if the risk of freezing exists,
collectors may only be fi lled with water/antifreeze mixture, even for pressure tests and functional tests. Alternatively,
the pressure test can be carried out with compressed air and leak detector spray . Failure to comply may result in damage to
the system .
Sensor installation
The temperature sensor is to be installed on the sensor sleeve nearest to the inlet fl ow of the collector fi eld. To ensure opti-
mal contact, fi ll the gap between the sensor sleeve and the sensor element with suitable heat-conducting paste. To prevent
the risk of fi re, the materials used (sensor element, contact paste, cable, sealing materials, insulation) must be suffi ciently
temperature-resistant (up to 250°C) .
Operating pressure
The maximum operating pressure is 10 bar .
Ventilation
Ventilation must be performed:
–
during commissioning (after fi lling)
–
four weeks after commissioning
–
as needed, e .g . in the event of a fault .
Risk of scalding due to steam or hot heat transfer fl uid!
Only actuate the vent valve if the temperature of the heat transfer fl uid is <60°C. Do not drain the system while
the collectors are hot! Cover the collectors and drain the system in the morning, if possible .
Testing the heat transfer fl uid
The antifreeze and pH value of the heat transfer fl uid must be checked at least every two years.
–
Test the antifreeze using an antifreeze tester and change it or top it up, if necessary!
Target value approx . -20°C to -30°C, depending on climatic conditions .
–
Test the pH with a pH indicator stick (target value approx . pH 7 .5):
If the pH is below the threshold of ≤ pH 7, change the heat transfer fl uid.
Collector maintenance
The collector or collector fi eld must be inspected annually for damage, leaks and contamination by a qualifi ed professional to
ensure it is functioning properly and identify any signs of wear and risks to people and property early on, so that these can be
prevented. After initial commissioning and in seasons with strong outside temperature fl uctuations, condensation may form
in the collector . However, this condensation disappears after a few hours of sunlight . Complaints are excluded if this mainte-
nance requirement is not met .
