2.4 Function
The heating cable has an automatic thermostat that switches the heating cable on when it detects a temperature of approx. +3 °C and
switches it off again when it detects a temperature of approx. +13 °C. (Fig. 12)
3. Installation and commissioning
Prepare the pipe and heating cable:
1. ensure that the area around the pipeline is easily accessible and there are no sharp edges or flammable materials.
Danger!
• Fire hazard! To prevent fires, the heating cable should be kept at least 13 mm away from all flammable materials.
2. If the heating cable is to be used to keep a plastic water pipe free from frost, the plastic water pipe must be completely wrapped
with an aluminium adhesive tape (Kerbl item no.: 222809).
The aluminium adhesive tape improves heat transfer, evenly distributes the heat around the pipe and prevents localised heating, as
aluminium is a better heat conductor than plastic. (Fig. 5)
Danger!
• The heating cable must only be used on temperature resistant water pipes approved for hot water.
• Never install the heating cable on a plastic pipe unless it is ensured that the pipe is always filled with water.
3. Electrically earth all installation metal parts.
Danger!
• For safety reasons, metal pipes, guttering, protective tubes and sheathing must be earthed before
installation. Ensure every metal part is earthed before beginning installation. The entire system must be
checked for consistency and any necessary additional earthing connection must be created.
• Do not install the same heating cable simultaneously on different pipes. This could cause the heating
cable to overheat and lead to fire or electric shock.
4. Allow the heating cable to warm up to room temperature before beginning the installation.
