SPECIAL SAFETY BULLETIN
SAFETY GUIDELINES
DANGER!
Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a poisonous gas that cannot be seen nor smelled and can result in
fatality within minutes. This heater is NOT for use in residential living areas. Only use this
product in a well-ventilated area.
Provide a minimum of 3.2 square feet (0.34 square meters) of ventilation to the outdoors into the
operation area at the unit-height level. The first symptoms of carbon monoxide asphyxiation are similar
to that of the flu: headaches, dizziness, and/or nausea. These symptoms could be caused by a malfunction
of the Radiant Heater. In this case go outside immediately. Have the Radiant Heater repaired before
continuing operation of the heater. Some people are more affected by the effects of carbon monoxide
than others, especially pregnant women, those who suffer from heart or lung disease, or people with
anemia; also those who have consumed alcoholic beverages and those who are at high altitudes. Be sure
to read and understand all of the warnings. Save this manual for future reference: it will provide you with
instructions to operate your radiant heater safely and correctly.
WARNING: USE ONLY DIESEL OR NO. 2 FUEL OIL
To diminish the risk of fire or explosion, never use gasoline, crankcase drainings, naphtha, paint thinners,
alcohol or other highly flammable materials.
FILLING THE TANK
a. The person filling the tank should be qualified and completely familiar with the factory instructions
for the operation of the radiant heater.
b. Before filling the tank, extinguish all of the flames, including the radiant heater and wait for the
radiant heater to cool down.
c. While filling the tank inspect all of the fuel lines and their junctions to check for fuel leaks. Any
leaks must be repaired before starting the radiant heater again.
d. All fuel must be stored in compliance with current regulations. All fuel tanks and containers should be
located a minimum safe distance from the heater
radiant heater), as well as oxyhydrogen blowpipe/ torches, welding equipment and similar ignition sources.
e. The fuel should be stored in areas where the flooring will not soak up any fuel spills. Any drips
from the fuel filling process or from the fuel line, should be cleaned up to prevent potential ignition
by the radiant heater.
f. NOTE: If the heater will be operated in ambient environments below 35°F (2°C), adding an additive to the
fuel to prevent gelling is recommended.
