If the influence to the environmental parameters can be compensated, by performing the automatic zero of the de-
tector, the interference of other gas temporarily present in the environment (eg. Exhaust gases of motor vehicles)
can be improved by setting delays in the activation of the alarms. The low selectivity to halocarbons can be used in
the monitoring of environments or plants where are possible leaks of different refrigerants.
Preheating: when powered, the sensor needs a time of preliminary heating of about 120 seconds. During this pe-
riod the yellow LED "FAULT" flashes. After this period, the yellow LED light off, the green LED "ON" illuminates to in-
dicate normal functioning. After this period the unit is able to detect gas even if it attains the optimum stability condi-
tions after about 48 hours continual functioning.
Normal operation: the green LED "ON" should be light on.
The Red LED (ALARM) illuminates when the Gas concentration attains 500 ppm (only if it be activate by Dip-Switch).
Faults: the instrument signal different kind of failures, as listed below. The Yellow LED illuminates and the "S" out-
put falls down to 0mA.
Yellow LED illuminates each 4 seconds (with Green LED activate): this happens when the "Cartridge Sensor" has
overcome its period of life (about 5 years) and its correct operation is not longer guaranteed. The detector keeps on
operating but it is necessary to replace, as soon as possible, the "Cartridge Sensor" with a new one. The type to be
required is described in
Yellow LED activate, Green LED off (0mA output signal): this signal different kind of faults. 1) The Dip Switch set
up is wrong, please verify
a new "Cartridge Sensor" is installed or it is not correctly connected or a not compatible one is mounted. Please
check the cartridge connections and compatibility
ing the device. If the condition does not change, it will be necessary to replace the unit and/or send it back to the
supplier to repair.
Yellow and Green LED activates (0mA output signal): this happens when the "Cartridge Sensor" is not working.
First try to disconnect and connect the unit, finally try to replace a new "Cartridge Sensor". If the condition is not
change, it will be necessary to replace the unit and/or send it back to the supplier to repair.
All LED activate (>24mA output signal): this happens when the "Cartridge Sensor" is not working or gas concentra-
tion is out of scale (higher than 1000 ppm) or a concentration of interfering gas is very high. Ventilate the ambient
well, making sure to let out the refrigerant gas or the interfering ones. If there is no gas leak and the condition per-
sists after you have ventilated the room, it may be that the sensor has reached its end of life, then replace the "Car-
tridge Sensor". If the condition does not change, it will be necessary to replace the unit and/or send it back to the
supplier to repair.
INSTALLATION
The detector must be accurately installed according to the national dispositions in force on the safety of the plants
and installation of electric devices in areas, with the presence of toxic or flammable gases.
Mounting: The
Fig. 2
shows the instrument size. The detector must be positioned vertically with the sensor down-
wards. Avoid obstacles that impede the view of the detector or the diffusion of air around the sensor. Consider that
the air movements can affect the gas detection. Avoid mounting in corners, near doors or windows or in the direct
flow of air vents or ventilation systems. Normally, the detector should be installed indoors.
TS220SF positioning: Consider that halocarbons are gas heavier than air. Usually it should be fixed at 20-30cm
from the floor. Please, carefully evaluate the condition of the environment in order to have the best detection.
-
If the detector is placed in refrigerated environments, place it in the area of return of the flow of air from the
environment towards the recirculation system / air conditioning; but not in the direct flow.
-
If the detector is positioned in the compressor rooms, place it close to them in proximity of the suction grilles /
recirculation of air; but not in the direct flow.
-
Consider that the main causes of gas leaks in an air conditioning system are valves, fittings, flanges and con-
nections. Avoid placing the detector too close to the pressure parts of the system because a gas leak may not
be accurately detected (if the gas, leaking, has too high a flow, may not be detected by the sensor).
Electrical Connection
show in
table
1. Normally use a tree wire shielded cable. The shield must be connected to the ground by the side
of the Central Unit.
The opening and the electrical connection must always be made to the detector without power.
The terminals (+ - S), are polarized and plug-in type, it is necessary to extract them to make the connection.
Note: With the Dip-Switches the Alarm Red Led activation is determined. Dip-switch should be set with in-
strument powered off. Dip-switch 1 settled ON activates ALARM LED indication (see Table 2).
Important: Once installation is completed, power the detector, wait at least 48 hours (powered continuously) and
then, only if the output signal, was very different from 4mA, to adjust the sensor to the environment conditions, per-
form the "Zero Adjust" (see 'Test and Calibration").
COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER CENTRAL UNITS: In case of a central unit other then Tecnocontrol, please
verify the max load resistor as shown in
We accept no responsibility for any malfunction, failure or damage caused by products that are not com-
patible or not of our production.
WARNING
Average life: In fresh air and in normal working condition the sensor's life is about 5 years from the date of installa-
tion. After this period the yellow LED "FAULT" flashes every 4 seconds, is necessary replacing the "Cartridge Sen-
