MegaBox MB  – Centrifugal fans
– In case of operation under difficult conditions, such as high levels of humidity, aggressive media, longer periods of
standstill, heavy contamination, excessive strain due to climatic, technical, electronic influences, consultation and
release approval is required, as the standard version is not suitable in this respect.
– It must be ensured that the area of application specified in the standard is not exceeded. The permissible media and
ambient temperature range is -20 °C to +40 °C. Deviating temperatures can be found on the type plate.
– The MegaBox Ex centrifugal fans are designed as components of a stationary ventilation system. They may only be
operated when installed as intended and safety is ensured by protective installations and the required constructional
explosion protection measures according to DIN EN 14986.
– According to DIN EN 14986, fans are not to be regarded as absolutely gas-tight. The same explosion-proof zone is valid
for inside and outside!
– The unit may be operated outdoors with an outdoor cover hood
The fan must only be used for its intended purpose!
– The transportation of solids or solid particles in the transport medium and fluids is not permitted.
– Transport media, which attack the fan material, are not permitted.
– The fan is not suitable for transporting dusty media. Deposits of dust in the fan casing and/or impellers are not per-
mitted.
– The fan must not be connected to a smoke gas duct.
– There must be no rust particles in the air flow.
– The temperature class on the type plate must correspond to the ignition temperature of the potential gas or the fan
must meet the requirements of a higher temperature class.
– The force/torque exerted by the piping on the fan housing must not exceed 50 N or 5 Nm.
– The fan may only be operated within the specified performance curve range, so that sufficient cooling is en-
sured Usage beyond the range of the performance curve is not permitted!
110 Performance data
The motor type plate provides information about the electrical values; these must be coordinated with the local supply
network. The fan performances* were determined on a test stand according to DIN 24163; they are valid for the rated
speed and standard version with free inflow and discharge. Diverging versions and adverse installation and operation
conditions can lead to a reduction of performance.
111 Noise data
The noise data* also refers to the above mentioned configuration. Casing vibrations, adverse operating conditions,
etc. can lead to an increase of the values specified in the catalogue. Data relating to certain distances (1, 2, 4 m) are
valid for free-field conditions. The sound pressure level can differ significantly from the data published in the catalogue
after installation, as sound pressure levels depend on the absorption capacity on the room, the place of installation
and other factors.
21 Safety information for explosion-proof fans
The usage, connection and operation of explosion-proof fans are subject to special regulations; consultation is required
in case of doubt. Helios explosion-proof fans comply with the requirements of ATEX, Directive 2014/34/EU (Product
Safety Act). In order to assess hazardous areas, the allocation of zones by the operator is necessary. Only fans in the
appropriate category approved for the respective zone may be used. Further information can be found in the relevant
standards and legal texts.
m
Danger to life due to electric shock!
– Before any maintenance or installation work or before opening the terminal compartment, the device must
be fully isolated from the power supply and secured against unintended restart! The electrical connection
must be carried out only by a qualified electrician in accordance with the following wiring diagrams!
– Compliance with the EMC Directive refers only to this fan when it is directly connected to the public grid. If the fan
is integrated into a system or supplemented with other components and operated, the manufacturer or operator is
responsible for compliance with the EMC Directive.
– Speed control and abnormally frequent activation/deactivation is not permitted!
– Every motor must have a motor protection device of category II (2)G, see Directive 2014/34/EU (Product Safety Act),
which is to be adjusted to the rated current of the motor and which trips within the time t E specified on the motor
type plate, provided the motor is blocked. The function is to be tested on the basis of the tripping characteristic line
enclosed with the protection switch. Also observe the regulations especially enclosed with the device.
– The intake of foreign objects in the fan has to be avoided by using protection devices corresponding to IP20 (EN 60529) or
with a mesh width of no more than 12 mm.
– The compliance of the air gap (the gap between nozzle and door panel, Fig7) represents an extremely important
feature for explosion protection For example, this can be affected by external influences on the casing Therefore,
the casing must not be deformed during the assembly Maintaining the required gap at any point of the circumference
must be ensured by regular inspection!
– In order to comply with operational safety requirements, a vibration check must be carried out at regular intervals! Alternatively,
it is advisable to install an Ex-version vibration monitoring system on site. This must take the system out of service when the
limits have been exceeded. The permissible vibration limits according to ISO 14694 are shown in the table 3.7 on page 6.
– The planners and operators must ensure easy access for inspection and cleaning work!
– The operator is responsible for compliance with all plant-related safety regulations.
