WARNING: Always wear ear protection where the sound level exceeds 85dB(A) and limit the
time of exposure if necessary. If sound levels are uncomfortable, even with ear protection, stop
using the tool immediately and check the ear protection is correctly fitted and provides the correct
level of sound attenuation for the level of sound produced by your tool.
Sound levels in the specification are determined according to international standards. The figures
represent normal use for the tool in normal working conditions. A poorly maintained, incorrectly
assembled, or misused tool, may produce increased levels of noise and vibration. www.osha.europa.
eu provides information on sound and vibration levels in the workplace that may be useful to
domestic users who use tools for long periods of time.
General Safety Warnings
WARNING: Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in damage to the tool
or serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
WARNING: This tool is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced
physical or mental capabilities or lack of experience or knowledge unless they have been given
supervision or instruction concerning use of the tool by a person responsible for their safety.
Children must be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
a) Familiarise yourself with the applications, limitations and hazards of the tool.
b) Keep the product in good working order and condition. Take immediate action to repair or
replace damaged parts.
c) Use recommended parts only. Unapproved parts may be dangerous and will invalidate the
warranty.
d) Use the tool only for its intended purpose.
e) Use appropriate safety equipment including eye protection, respiratory protection and protective
gloves.
f) Injury can occur if loose clothing, personal jewellery, neck wear, hair or gloves are not kept away
from the tool and its accessories.
g) Keep proper footing and balance at all times. If appropriate secure workpiece in a clamp or vice.
h) Ensure that the tool is disconnected from the air supply before servicing, changing accessories
and when not in use.
i) DO NOT allow smoking or open flames in the work area.
j) DO NOT modify the tool. Modifications can reduce the effectiveness of safety measures and
increase the risks to the user.
k) DO NOT tamper with or adjust safety valves or other safety features.
l) DO NOT use the tool or accessories if they have been damaged. Inspect tools and accessories
before each use. Do not use if damaged or excessively worn.
m) DO NOT use whilst tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.
n) Compressed air can cause severe injury.
o) Whipping hoses can cause severe injury. Always check for damaged or loose hoses and fittings.
p) DO NOT direct air flow at yourself, others or animals.
q) Do not exceed the maximum air pressure stated on the tool.
r) Never carry an air tool by the hose.
s) Inspect tools and accessories before each use. Do not use if damaged or excessively worn.
t) Air tools should only be powered by compressed air at the lowest pressure required by the task to
reduce noise and vibration and minimise wear.
u) Hold the tool correctly; be ready to counteract normal or sudden movements such as recoil. Have
both hands available.
v) Never use pure oxygen or combustible gases to power an air tool. Air tools are not designed for
these power sources and their use creates a fire and explosion hazard.
w) Switch off tool if air / power supply is interrupted.
x) Be aware that air tools may become cold during use, affecting grip, control and susceptibility to
vibration-related injury.
IMPORTANT: Even when this tool is used as prescribed it is not possible to eliminate all residual risk
factors. If you are in any doubt as to the safe use of this tool, do not use it.
Work area hazards
a) Be aware of slippery surfaces caused by use of the tool and trip hazards caused by the air line.
Slips, trips and falls are major causes of injury.
b) Where possible do not obstruct thoroughfares and passageways with air lines or cables. Take
appropriate measures to reduce trip risk such as erecting warning signs and fixing cables and air
lines in place.
c) The tool is not intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and is not insulated against
contact with electric power.
Sand Blasting Equipment Safety
WARNING: Abrasive blasting with sands containing crystalline silica can cause silicosis, a serious
respiratory disease that can be fatal.
WARNING: Never blast abrasive material towards a source of heat or ignition, as this may cause
a fire or an explosion.
WARNING: Dust emissions from sandblasting may contribute to the formation of explosive
atmospheres. Ensure proper ventilation and take precautions to prevent dust explosions e.g. from
possible ignition sources.
• ALWAYS wear adequate personal protective equipment, including eye and hearing protection,
suitable gloves, long sleeves and protective clothing when operating a sandblaster
• If large amounts of dust are created, helmets or hoods with air supply may be necessary
• Work gloves must protect the full forearm; protective clothing must provide suitable protection
from rebounding abrasives
• Sandblasting operations are noisy. ALWAYS wear adequate hearing protection where sound
levels exceed 85dB(A)
• Sandblasting equipment is likely to develop an electrostatic charge during operation. If an
electrostatically conductive blast hose is not available, the blast nozzle must be grounded
• NEVER direct the outlet nozzle towards people or animals
• ONLY use clean, dry, unoiled compressed air to power sandblasting equipment
• Wet, oily or otherwise contaminated compressed air will cause the abrasive to cake, and clog the
sandblasting equipment
• NEVER use sandblasting equipment to spray solvents, acids or caustic agents
• DO NOT work near flammable items. Abrasive striking metal can cause sparks which may ignite
flammable materials.
• Carefully cover areas of the workpiece that must not be sandblasted (e.g. insides of engine
blocks, cylinder bores, and other functional surfaces)
• Refer to the abrasive manufacturer's instructions with regards to additional safety warnings,
usage recommendations and disposal procedures
• ALWAYS disconnect the sandblasting equipment from the air supply when relocating or refilling
the abrasive container
