1. Service information
1.1. Area verification
Before starting work on systems containing flammable refrigerants, safety checks are
necessary to ensure that the risk of ignition is minimised. Before repairing the cooling system,
the following precautions must be observed:
1.2. Work procedure
The work must be carried out in accordance with a controlled procedure to minimise the risk of
a flammable vapour or gas being present while the work is being carried out.
1.3. General workspace
All maintenance personnel and others working in the area should be briefed on the nature
of the work to be carried out. Work in confined spaces must be avoided. The area around the
workspace should be divided into sections. Ensure that conditions within the workspace are
safe by keeping flammable material under control.
1.4. Refrigerant verification
The area should be checked with an appropriate refrigerant detector before and during
work to ensure that the technician is warned of potentially flammable atmospheres. Ensure
that the leak-detection equipment used is suitable for use with flammable refrigerants, i.e.,
non-sparking, adequately sealed, or intrinsically safe.
1.5. Presence of fire extinguishers
