Underbucking
Begin on the underside of the log with the
top of the saw against the log; exert light
pressure upward. During underbucking,
the saw will tend to push back at you. Be
prepared for this reaction and hold the
saw rmly to maintain control.

When the log is supported along its
entire length, it should be cut from
the top (overbucking) (Fig. 21).

When the log is supported on only
one end, cut 1/3 the diameter from
the underside (underbucking).
Then make the nishing cut by
overbucking to meet the rst cut
(Fig. 22).

When the log is supported on both
ends, cut 1/3 of that diameter from
the top overbuck. Then make the
nished cut by underbucking the
lower 2/3 to meet the rst cut
(Fig. 23).
