Underbucking
Begin on the underside of the log with the
top of the saw against the log; exert light
pressure upward. During underbucking,
the saw will tend to push back at you. Be
prepared for this reaction and hold the
saw rmly to maintain control.

When the log is supported along its
entire length, it should be cut from
the top (overbucking) (Fig. 21).
◾
When the log is supported on only
one end, cut 1/3 the diameter from
the underside (underbucking).
Then make the nishing cut by
overbucking to meet the rst cut
(Fig. 22).

When the log is supported on both
ends, cut 1/3 of that diameter from
the top overbuck. Then make the
nished cut by underbucking the
lower 2/3 to meet the rst cut
(Fig. 23).
