fingers under each side.
Never move or carry the unit when filled with
water, while it is in use or connected to the
mains supply.
Use only water and no other liquid in the bath.
Do not lean over the bath when removing the lid
as steam may be released. Open the lid slowly to
allow steam to disperse safely.
Allow water to cool before draining.
General Description
The SWB series digital water baths are ideal for
heating vessels and maintaining samples at a
constant temperature. They are available in 6L, 15L
and 24L options to accommodate different vessels of
different sizes. They have a one-piece stainless steel
construction for ease of maintenance and cleaning.
In addition to this, a drain tap aids removal of the
bath water. For safety, all baths have a water level
sensor to prevent the bath running dry. Temperature
is maintained by a PRT temperature sensor and there
is an over-temperature cut out for added safety. To
avoid evaporation and improve temperature control,
clear polycarbonate covers are included with the
baths.

Recommended Bath Water
The inner containers of the Cole-Parmer water
baths are manufactured from grade 304 stainless
steel, a material which is extremely hardwearing,
easy to clean and with excellent corrosion
resistance.
It is important to remember that although
stainless steel has a higher resistance to oxidation
than ordinary steel in various environmental
conditions, it is not rust and corrosion proof.
Care must be taken when using the baths not to
use or introduce chemicals which may cause
damage to the surface of the bath. Regular
cleaning and maintenance will prolong the life of
the bath and enable continued use for many years.
For the Cole-Parmer baths we recommend water,
preferably distilled or deionised, with neutral pH.
Ultra pure deionised or RO water with a resistivity
>1Mohm should not be used, as this can leach
the iron from the stainless steel and lead to
corrosion. If necessary, add a little tap water to
the pure water in the bath. Hard tap water
should also be avoided as this can cause build up
of scale inside the bath and on the heating
elements. Other salts in tap water such as
chlorides and sodium ions can also lead to pitting
and corrosion.
Setting up
Position the apparatus on a firm level surface and
insert the mains lead into the socket on the rear of
the unit. Ensure the isolation switch is easily
accessible during use.
Attach a suitable length of hose to the drain tap
at the rear of the bath to allow for draining off the
water after use. Ensure the drain tap is accessible
to prevent spillage when the bath is full.
Note: To ensure correct operation, prior to use
you should clean the level sensor with a mild
solvent, such as Isopropyl alcohol.
