Drain Line Connection locating and fitting (V)
1.
Ideally, locate the unit not more than 6 metres from the drain. Connect 15mm plastic tubing
(Garden hose) to the drain line connection of the control valve (v)
IMPORTANT: Never insert drain line into a drain, sewer line or trap. Always allow an air gap
between the drain line and the wastewater to prevent the possibility of sewage being back-
siphoned into softener.
Drain line scenarios
If the unit is located more than 6 metres from drain, use 22mm tubing for distances 6-12metres.
Purchase appropriate fitting to connect the 22mm tubing to the 15mm drain connection (v) on the
control valve.
If the unit is located where the drain line must be elevated. You may elevate the line up to 1.8 metres
providing the tubing length does not exceed 4.5 metres and water pressure at softener is not less than
2.75bar. You may elevate an additional 60cm for each additional .7bar of water pressure.
Where the drain line is elevated but empties into a drain below the level of the control valve, form a
20cm loop at the end of the tubing so that the bottom of the loop is level with the drain line connection.
This will provide an adequate siphon trap.
Where the drain empties into an overhead sewer line, a sink trap must be used.
Turn off water mains and release the water pressure by turning on the cold-water kitchen tap.
2.
IMPORTANT: Risk of severe flooding if mains water is not turned off completely.
Cut the incoming water mains pipe (iii). Install an elbow joint on your mains pipe at both ends
3.
of the cut. Use the appropriate fitting size to match the fittings on your water softener fittings
size (15 mm or 22mm)
IMPORTANT: Make sure the cut is taken before the tee piece for the pipe going to the attic /
water storage tank (i).
Connect mains pipe to water inlet on control valve (iii).
4.
IMPORTANT: Check the directional flow arrows on your unit (H on diagram 1). You must
match the directional flow arrows to the directional flow of your water.
5.
Connect outlet from control valve (i) back to mains pipe supplying the house.
6.
Tighten the brine suction hose (iv)
Connect the white brine suction hose (iv) to the control unit (J). Tighten to an airtight seal.
Tighten with your hand, then tighten airtight with a wrench.
Use a wrench to tighten the brass nut on the control unit.
Check that the other end of the brine suction hose is connected securely inside the brine tank
to the grey brine suction pipe. The Grey brine suction pipe on the inside should be wedged at
the size of the blue vessel. The flotation buoy end of the grey pipe should be on the bottom of
the brine tank. Loose seals on the brine suction hose if the most common cause of the unit
malfunctioning.
IMPORTANT: It is important that the brine suction hose is airtight. (J) (iv)
Overflow line connection. (viii)
7.
The overflow fitting is already fitted on most models. Some models require manual fitting of the
overflow fitting. Identify the fitting (Usually loose in the bottom of your brine tank). Drill a hole in
the side of the brine tank; take care not to puncture the vessel inside. The hole should be
approximately 15cm from the top of the tank. Fit the overflow fitting. Attach 15mm tubing
(Garden hose) to overflow fitting and run to a suitable outside location.
Do not elevate overflow tube higher than 7 cm above the bottom of overflow fitting.
IMPORTANT: Do not connect the overflow into the drain line of control unit. The overflow line
