Adjusting thread tension
Thecorrecttensionisanimportantfactorbecausetoo
little tension or too much tension will cause loose
stitchesorwillcausetheclothtopucker.Makeateston
asampleofclothandthreadthatyouintendtouse.
Aperfect,well-balancedstitch(illustration )willhave
locksbetweenthetwolayersoffabricwithnoloopson
toporbottomandnopuckering.
Forstraightstitching
To reduce tension, turn the dial to a lower number.
Littletensionwillproducealoosestitch(illustration2),
withloopsinyourseam.Toincreasetension,turnthe
dialtoahighernumber.Toomuchtensionwillcausethe
fabrictopucker(i llustration3).
Forzigzagstitching
The correct tension setting will produce smooth and
even stitches with the needle and bobbin threads
lockingtheendsofthezigzagstitches(illustration4).
Toomuchtensionwillproduceatightstitch,whichwill
causetheclothtopucker.Toloosentensionturndialto
alowernumber.Toolittletensionwillproducealoose
stitch. Tighten tension b y turning dial to a higher
number.
