1. Remove mud flaps – Using a flat head screwdriver, remove (1) rivet near wheel well liner and (1) rivet at the bottom on mud flap per side. Using a Phillips screwdriver or 8 mm
socket remove (2) screws on mud flap near wheel well liner per side. Remove the mud flaps and keep for reinstallation.
2. Remove rear fascia – Using a flat head screwdriver, remove (1) rivet on wheel wells and (3) rivets on the bottom of fascia per side. Open the hatch and remove the (2) screws
located near the brake light. Remove the fascia and trim fascia according to figure 4.
3. Lower muffler – Using the exhaust removal pliers, lower muffler by removing the (4) rearmost rubber hangers. There are (2) hangers for each exhaust and (1) in the middle of
the car. Note: A spray of lubricant on rubber hangers makes them slide off metal pins more easily. NOTE: Be careful that exhaust is supported before removing rubber hangers.
4. Remove heat shield – Using a 10mm socket, remove (4) screws holding heat shield(s) to vehicle. NOTE: vehicles with dual exhaust require the removal of both heat shields.
5. Remove rubber plugs - Using a flat screw driver, remove (4) rubber plugs from the holes in the bottom of the frame, return plugs to customer.
6. Trim heat shield – Using tin snips, trim the heat shield as shown in figure 3.
7. Install fasteners – Feed the coiled end of pull wire through the second attachment hole and out of the forward most access hole in the bottom of frame. Attach the 7/16"
carriage bolt and 1/10" thick block (item 4) to the pull wire and pull the fasteners into position, both sides. Repeat process for all attachment points, both sides. Make sure the
spacer blocks are sitting flat inside the frame and do not overlap. See figure 2.
8. Reinstall heat shield – Replace (2) of the (4) screws removed previously. Do not replace the screws that go underneath the hitch bracket, the hitch will sandwich the shield into
place
9. Install hitch – Raise hitch into position being careful not to push fasteners back into the frame. Loosely install the conical washers (item 2) and hex nuts (item 3) onto carriage
bolts, (6) places.
10. Tighten all 7/16-14 Gr5 fasteners with torque wrench to 50 Lb.-Ft. ( 68 N*M)
11. Raise muffler – raise muffler back into position and reattach rubber hangers, (2) per side and (1) in the middle.
12. Reinstall fascia and mud flaps – Reinstall fascia, mud flaps and all fasteners removed in step 1 & 2.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball which
has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch. This product complies with
safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
