CABLE AND HOOK
Select a winch cable with breaking strength that is at least 1-1 ⁄ 2 times the
winch rating (see Specifications). Select a hook that is 1-1 ⁄ 2 times stronger
than the winch cable.
WARNING! Use extreme care when replacing cable (wire rope). It is secured
under tension by the cable clamp, and may spring back forcefully.
REMOVING AN OLD CABLE
1.
Move the ratchet switch
(#14) to the lower (reel out)
position, and then reel the
old cable all the way out by
turning the handle
counterclockwise.
2.
Loosen the nut (Fig. 3-1), and
then remove the old cable
(Fig. 3-4) from underneath
the cable clamp (Fig. 3-2).
3.
Remove the old cable.
4.
Continue to Mounting a New Cable or Mounting a New Nylon Strap, below.
MOUNTING A NEW CABLE
1.
Route the end of the new cable over the bushing (Fig. 3-3) and through
the hole to the outside of the drum.
2.
Install the cable under the cable clamp.
3.
Tighten the nut securely.
4.
Put the ratchet switch (#14) in the upper (reel in) position, and then
reel the new cable onto the drum by turning the handle clockwise,
being careful not to allow kinking.
5.
Test the winch for proper operation.
OPERATION
RATCHET SWITCH
The ratchet switch has 3 positions: The higher position is for pulling. The
lower position is for releasing. The middle position is for both pulling and
releasing. This position can only be used when the winch is loaded.
Hold the crank handle tightly when changing the ratchet switch position.
