CABLE AND HOOK
Select a winch cable with breaking strength that is at least 1-1 ⁄ 2 times the
winch rating (see Specifications). Select a hook that is 1-1 ⁄ 2 times stronger
than the winch cable.
WARNING! Use extreme care when replacing cable (wire rope). It is secured
under tension by the screw and nut and may spring back forcefully.
REMOVING AN OLD CABLE
1.
Turn the handle (D) counterclockwise to unload the cable until all coils
are off the drum.
2.
Loosen the nut (Fig. 3-1), and then remove
the old cable (Fig. 3-4) from the perforated
screw (Fig. 3-1).
3.
Remove the old cable.

Continue to Mounting a New Cable or Mounting
a New Nylon Strap, below.
MOUNTING A NEW CABLE
1.
Route the end of new cable (Fig. 3-4) under the bushing (Fig. 3-3).
2.
Push the cable out of the second closest hole to the perforated screw
(Fig. 3-1),

Guide the cable through the hole closest to the screw. Have enough
cable to extend past the screw.
4.
Insert the cable through the perforated screw' s hole. The cable should
extend slightly out of the screw.
5.
Tighten the nut securely.
6.
Remove any slack from the cable weaving through the drum' s holes.
7.
Reel the new cable onto the drum by turning the handle clockwise,
being careful not to allow kinking.
8.
Test the winch for proper operation.
MOUNTING A NEW NYLON STRAP
If a nylon strap is used, it should have a loop sewn in one end and be
attached using a 5 /16 in. x 2-3/8 in. long bolt and locknut (not included).
1.
Remove the gear cover.
2.
Rotate the drum until the oval slot is at a convenient position.
3.
Thread the strap under the bushing (Fig. 3-3). Lay the strap loop
between the oval slots.
