Troubleshooting the Rider
PROBLEM
The engine will not turnover or start.
Engine starts hard or operates poorly.
Engine knocks.
Excessive oil consumption.
Engine exhaust is black.
Engine runs, but rider will not drive.
Rider steers hard or handles poorly.
Note: For all other problems, contact an Authorized Service Dealer.
Troubleshooting the Mower
PROBLEM
The mower cut is uneven.
The mower cut looks rough.
The engine stalls easily with the mower engaged.
The engine turns ON, and the rider drives, but the
mower will not cut.
Note: For all other problems, contact an Authorized Service Dealer.
LOOK FOR
The brake pedal is not pushed down.
Empty fuel tank.
The PTO switch is set to the ON position.
The cruise control is engaged.
The engine is flooded.
The battery terminals require cleaning.
The battery is discharged or is dead.
Loose or broken wiring.
The fuel mixture is too rich.
Low oil level.
Incorrect grade of oil.
Incorrect grade of oil.
There is too much oil in crankcase.
The air filter is dirty.
The choke is closed.
The speed control pedals are not pushed down.
The transmission release lever is in PUSH
position.
The parking brake is engaged.
Incorrect tire inflation.
LOOK FOR
The rider tires are incorrectly inflated.
The engine speed is set too slow.
The ground speed is set too fast.
The engine speed is set too slow.
The ground speed is set too fast.
The air cleaner is clogged or dirty.
The Height-of-Cut is set too low.
The engine is not up to operating temperature.
The grass is too tall.
The Power-Take Off (PTO) is not engaged.
REMEDY
Fully push down on the brake pedal.
If engine is hot, let the engine cool, then fill the fuel
tank.
Set the PTO switch to the OFF position.
Move the cruise control knob to the NEUTRAL/OFF
position.
Disconnect the choke.
Refer to Clean the Battery and Cables.
Charge or replace the battery.
Visually inspect the wiring. If wires are frayed or
broken, see an Authorized Service Dealer.
Clean the air filter.
Inspect and add oil as required.
Refer to the Start and Stop Engine section.
Refer to the Start and Stop Engine section.
Drain remaining oil.
Refer to the Service the Air Filter section.
Open the choke.
Push down on the speed control pedals.
Move the transmission release lever into DRIVE
position.
Release the parking brake.
Refer to the Check Tire Pressure section.
REMEDY
Refer to the Check Tire Pressure section.
Set to FAST throttle.
Slow down.
Set to FAST throttle.
Slow down.
Refer to the Service Air Filter section.
Cut tall grass at maximum Height-of-Cut during first
pass.
Operate the engine for several minutes to warm
up.
Start the mower in a cleared area.
Engage the PTO.
