Intermediate Switch for Personal Protection
Item No. 1765329
Intended Use
This intermediate switch for personal protection detects fault currents, and when they occur (>10 mA), it
interrupts the power supply of consumer load connected to it (turn off time <30 ms).
The product is splash-proof in accordance with IP55 and it can be operated indoors and outdoors. Prior to
start-up, the corresponding connection cables must be installed (see section "Installation").
All the safety and operating instructions in this manual must be followed carefully. These instructions not
only protect the device but, in particular, your health. Please read the entire operating manual before using
the product.
This product complies with the applicable national and European requirements. All names of companies and

Explanation of Symbols
The symbol with the lightning in the triangle is used if there is a risk to your health, e.g. due to an
electric shock.
The symbol with the exclamation mark in the triangle is used to indicate important information in
these operating instructions. Always read this information carefully.
Safety Instructions
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe these
safety instructions! We do not assume any liability for any consequential damage!
We shall not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused by
incorrect handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions. In such cases, the
warranty will be null and void.
• For reasons of safety and certification, the unauthorised opening, conversion and/or
modification of the product is not permitted (except for the installation of the connection cables
described in these operating instructions).
• The design of the product complies with the safety class I.
• The product is not a toy and must be kept out of the reach of children. Keep the product out
of the reach of children.
• The product may be mounted in indoor and outdoor areas (protection type IP55).
• Place the intermediate switch for personal protection so that it is not located in or under water.
Otherwise, water may enter the switch! The intermediate switch for personal protection is not
suitable for use in or under water! There is a risk of a life-threatening electric shock!
• When it is obvious that a consumer load is damaged, it must not be connected to the
intermediate switch.
• The intermediate switch for personal protection disconnects the consumer load from the
mains voltage in the event of a fault current >10 mA (two-pole disconnection). In spite of this,
personal injuries caused by electric shock may occur under unfavourable circumstances! If
you experience an electric shock, consult a doctor immediately!
• The use of the intermediate switch for personal protection only constitutes a basic safety
measure. Always pay attention to the appropriate use of your electric consumer loads.
• If the intermediate switch's casing or the connected cables are damaged, do not use the
product any longer! When it is connected to the mains voltage, do neither touch the
intermediate switch nor the connected device nor the cables! First, switch off all the poles
of the mains socket whereto the intermediate switch is connected (turn off the circuit breaker
and the FI protective switch). Only after that separate the intermediate switch for personal
protection from the mains voltage. Take the product to a specialist workshop or dispose of it
in an environmentally friendly way.
• Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around, since it could become a dangerous
plaything for children.
• Handle the product with care, it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or accidental falls, even
from a low height.
Installation
• Do not connect in series! There is a risk of fire! Before you can use the intermediate switch for
personal protection, suitable connection cables must be installed.
• The product may only be installed by a qualified technician (e.g. electrician) who is familiar
with the relevant regulations (e.g. VDE, German electrical wiring regulations)!
• Improper work carried out at the mains voltage endangers not only your life but also the life
of others!
• If you do not have the expertise required for the installation, do not install it yourself but entrust
the work to a qualified electrician.
• During the installing the intermediate switch must not be connected to the mains voltage!
There is a risk of a life-threatening electric shock.
• Only use suitable flexible connecting cables when installing the intermediate switch for
personal protection in outdoor areas. Never use thin power cords which are intended for use
in indoor areas! Inflexible installation cables may not be used either.
• Remove the cover from the rear of the intermediate switch for personal protection. To do this, a total of 4
screws must be unscrewed.
• Inside the plastic casing you will find both 3-pole screw terminals and the inscription "POWER" and
"LOAD".
The mains cable is connected to the 3 screw terminals (L + N + Protective Earth Conductor/PE)
which are labelled with "POWER".
The 3 screw-type terminals which are labelled with "LOAD" are used for the connection to the
consumer load.
• Push the corresponding cable through the lock nut and the rubber gasket. Only use a flexible connection
cable which is suitable for use in outdoor areas.
The connection cable must not be too loose but you should be able to push it in tightly. Otherwise, the
protection type IP55 is no longer guaranteed!
Strip approx. 2 cm from the cable. Then strip approx. 6 - 8 mm from the three individual wires and use
suitable core end sleeves.
• The screw terminals are labelled accordingly (L + N + earth symbol/PE). Insert the 3 coloured individual
cables into the corresponding terminals (brown cable = screw terminal L, blue cable = screw terminal N,
yellow/green cable = screw terminal with earth symbol) and screw them tightly.
• Fasten the lock nut and check that the cable is securely sealed and the strain relief ensured.
• Mount the cover and screw it in place using the 4 screws removed at the start.
Thereby you have to make sure that the rubber gasket for the cover is located in its slot and is
not squeezed by the cover. If the rubber gasket is not correctly placed into its slot, the protection
according to IP55 is no longer guaranteed; water may enter, danger to life through a fatal electric
shock!
Getting Started
Prior to each start-up, the activation of the intermediate switch for personal protection must be
tested. Rating labels in different languages are included in the package. Stick the language label
in your language over the German language label on the product.
• Connect the intermediate switch for personal protection to the mains voltage.
• Open the transparent plastic cover. Press the "TEST" button of the intermediate switch. Its triggering must
be audible. The control light above the "RESET" button goes out.
• Press the "RESET" button of the intermediate switch for personal protection (if required, press it twice if
the control lamp does not light up after pressing this button the first time). The switch is now operational,
the control lamp should light up again.
If that is not the case, check the mains cable. If there is mains voltage, the intermediate switch for
personal protection has been triggered due to a fault of the consumer load connected and it prevents the
reactivation of the load.
If the intermediate switch for personal protection has been triggered, do not use it any longer!
Check the consumer load (or the cable) for potential damages. In case of doubt, take the
products to a specialist workshop or have them checked by an expert (e.g. electrician).
• If you wish to stop the operation of the load, switch it off (provided the consumer load has its own power
switch) and disconnect the intermediate switch from the mains voltage.
Care and Cleaning
• The product is maintenance-free.
• Before cleaning the product, disconnect it from the power supply.
• Clean the outer side with a dry, clean, soft cloth. Never use aggressive cleaning agents or chemical
solutions since these might damage the surface of the casing or impair the operation.
Disposal
Electronic devices are recyclable waste and must not be disposed of in the household waste.
At the end of its service life, dispose of the product in accordance with applicable regulatory
guidelines.
You thus fulfill your statutory obligations and contribute to the protection of the environment.
