4 Setting-up
and Connecting the Unit
The control unit and the player mechanism unit
are provided for mounting into a rack for units
with a width of 482 mm (19"), but they can also
be used as tabletop units. The player mecha-
nism unit must always be operated horizontally
whereas the control unit can be installed as
desired, e. g. also inclined. For rack installation
2 rack spaces each are required for the control
unit and the player mechanism unit (1 RS =
1 rack space = 44.45 mm).
Prior to the connection or changing connections,
switch off the CD-270DJ and the units to be con-
nected.
1) Make the connection between control unit
and player mechanism unit: Connect the two
8-pole mini DIN jacks (21 and 24) on the rear
sides of the units via the supplied mini DIN
cable.
2) Connect the stereo outputs LINE OUT for
player 1 (25) and player 2 (22) via RCA cables
to the CD player inputs at the mixer or ampli-
fier.
3) Finally connect the plug of the mains cable
(23) to a socket (230 V~ / 50 Hz).

in the title display field (C) and then the title
number (indication TRACK), the time indica-
tion (E) shortly shows the total playing time
and then the remaining playing time of the
title (switching over the time indication
chapter 5.1.1).
If the tray has been retracted with the but-
ton , the player is set to pause at the first title
after reading in the CD. If the tray has been
retracted with button

title will start after reading in the CD.
4) To select a title, press the corresponding but-
ton TRACK (17): Each time the button
pressed, one title is advanced; when the but-
ton
is pressed, the unit returns to the
beginning of the title first and each time the
button is pressed, one more title is reversed.
5) It is possible to switch between replay [button
lights up,
(D) on the display] and pause
[button flashes,

5.1.1 Switching over the time indication
As a basic setting, the display shows the remain-
ing playing time of the title:
– as a numerical indication (E) in minutes, sec-
onds and frames (1 frame =
– as a bar graph indication (K);
the last 30 seconds of a title are displayed by
the bar graph flashing in its full length, the last
15 seconds by flashing even faster.
With the button TIME (9) the time indication can
be switched over, the respective insertion (F)
shows which time information is presently
shown:
REMAIN inserted:
remaining time of the title
REMAIN disappeared:
replayed time of the title
REMAIN TOTAL inserted:
remaining time of the CD

5.2 Selecting the operating mode

Use the button CONT (8) to switch between the
modes SINGLE PLAY and CONTINUOUS
PLAY. The active mode is shown by the corre-
sponding insertion (H).
A In the mode SINGLE PLAY (replay of indi-
vidual titles) the player is switched to pause
each time a title is replayed.
This mode is especially provided for DJ
.
applications. After reading in the CD or after
selecting a title with the buttons
the player is precisely at the spot where
the music starts (mostly not at the time
index 0 : 00 : 00 but some frames later,
(15)
e. g. 0 : 00 : 15). This spot is automatically
memorized as the starting point (Auto Cue
point). After starting the title, it is possible to
return to this starting point with the button
CUE (14). After replaying a title, the player is
switched to pause precisely at the spot where
the music of the next title starts. This spot is
then memorized as the new starting point.
B In the mode CONTINUOUS PLAY (replay of
all titles) all titles are replayed successively.
At the end of the CD the player mechanism
stops, the display shows the total number of
the titles (C) and the total playing time of the
CD (E).
After reading in the CD and after a title
selection, also in this mode the beginning of
a title is memorized as the Auto Cue point,
is
however, not precisely at the spot where the
music starts but at the time index 0 : 00 : 00.
However, if the titles are not selected via the
buttons
Auto Cue points will be memorized.
5.2.1 Sleep mode
If a player is in the pause mode for more than
30 minutes, it is switched to the sleep mode to
save the laser sampling system. The display
shows

The speed of the forward run or reverse run
depends on the turning speed of the wheel.
In the mode CONTINUOUS PLAY, the for-
ward run or reverse run also goes beyond
several titles to the beginning or end of the
CD. In the mode SINGLE PLAY the forward
run is possible beyond several titles (then the
player is set to the pause mode), the reverse
run, however, stops when reaching the
beginning of a title.
3) To switch off the function "fast forward / reverse",
press the button SEARCH. The insertion
SEARCH will be extinguished.
The function is also automatically switched
off when the wheel is not turned for 8 seconds.
Notes: In the pause mode, after a forward/reverse, the
present spot is continuously repeated. To stop the
repeat, shortly press the button CUE (14) twice (Cue
point is set
chapter 5.6) or start the replay with the
button
(15).

5.5 Precise selection of a spot

With the jog wheel (12) a spot on the CD can be
1
located precisely to 1 frame (
second) e. g. for
75
starting the replay from a certain spot and not at
the beginning of a title.
1) If the desired spot is reached when replaying,
set the unit to pause with the button
2) Prior to turning the wheel the function "fast
forward / reverse" must be switched off: if
SEARCH (J) is shown, press the button
SEARCH (7).
3) By turning the wheel clockwise and counter-
clockwise, precisely locate the spot. The
selected spot is continuously repeated.
4) After locating the spot, shortly press the but-
ton CUE (14) twice. Thus, the spot is memo-
rized (
chapter 5.6) und the repeated
replay stops. With the button
can now be started from this point.
5.6 Return to a spot (Cue point)
defined before
To be able to go quickly to a certain spot, a start-
ing point (Cue point) can be memorized with the
button CUE (14).

button
(15) when the spot is reached to
