BEA 030 configuration

After BEA-PC installation, the device interface of the
BEA 030 must be set. The BEA 030 can be connected
by way of either the USB connecting cable or
Bluetooth to a PC/Laptop.
1. Select "Start >> All programs >> Bosch >>
Diagnostics >> Central Device Communication"
or click onto "
" in the task bar with the left
mouse key.
 CDC – Central Device Communication is opened.
2. Select "Settings >> Device interfaces".
i
Pressing <F1> opens the Online Help for a display
of the most important information on interface
setting.
3. Configure the BEA 030 in the MTM Group
(USB or Bluetooth).
 BEA 030 is ready for operation.
4. Start SystemSoft BEA-PC.
i
Refer to the online help for further details on
SystemSoft BEA-PC.

Measurements on vehicle

!
Never position the BEA 030 in the vicinity of the
ignition when taking measurements in the engine
compartment.

Engine speed measurement

BEA 030 will select the connected speed sensor
automatically. If the battery B+/B– cable and the TN/
TD/EST connection cable are connected, the engine
speed measurement will be performed by TN/TD/EST
signal.
4.4.1

Battery harmonic content

i
BEA 030 calculates the transmission ratio
between the alternator and the crankshaft at idle.
BEA 030 requires an adaptation phase of 15 to 45
seconds before the measuring cycle to detect the
desired signal.
1. Start the motor vehicle, and press the accelerator
briefly to cause the battery charge indicator lamp to
go out. Switch on electrical equipment such as the
heated rear window, lights, seat heating, fog lights.
2. Switch off the blower!
3. Allow the engine to idle.
4. Use the battery clamps to connect the battery
B+/B– cable to the battery.
5. After approx. 30 seconds, the measured rotational
speed will appear on the BEA-PC display.
6. Make the appropriate setting for the pulse count of
the vehicle to be tested in the Pulse count setting
menu in BEA-PC.
i
If the pulse count is unknown, change the pulse
count until the rotational speed displayed matches
the actual rotational speed.
4.4.2

TN, TD and EST signal

i
The rotational speed can be determined by way
of TD, TN and EST signals, which are based on
rotational speed.
The speed-synchronous TN, TD or EST signals can
be tapped at a vehicle's test connectors, sensor
systems such as the camshaft sensor, ignition coils,
rev counters or OBD interfaces. These signals may
be in digital square-wave form (TD/EST) or in analog
alternating voltage form (TN). The connection cable
1 684 460 196 is used to measure TN, TD and EST
signals.
i
If a TN, TD or EST signal is used for engine speed
measurements, always connect the BEA 030 to
vehicle ground using the B– amps clamp of the
battery B+/B– cable. Only after this will it be
possible to perform an engine speed measurement.
