workpiece as close as possible to the cutting zone.
SPARKS HAZARD
FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD.
Cutting sparks can cause fire or
explosion. NEVER cut on containers or pipes that contain,
or may have contained, flammable or combustible
materials or potentially toxic coatings or solvents. Check
and be sure the work area is safe before doing any cutting.
Remove all flammable materials within 33 feet (10m) of the

cutting arc.
Wear an ANSI (American National Standards
◆
Institute) compliant helmet or shield to protect
your face and eyes sparks when cutting.
Wear ANSI compliant safety glasses with side
◆
shields under your helmet or shield.
Wear oil-free protective garments such as welding gloves,
◆
heavy shirt, cuffless trousers, high top shoes, and a welding
cap. Wear flame retardant ear plugs to keep sparks from
entering ears.
Keep a fully charged fire extinguisher nearby.

Check and be sure there are no flammable materials near the
◆
hidden side of the workpiece.
Connect work clamp to the workpiece as close to the cutting
◆
zone as possible; this will keep the electrical current from
traveling long distances and unknown paths.
Do not cut on closed containers such as tanks or drums.
◆
Never cut containers with unknown or potentially flammable
materials inside. Do not cut containers that have held
combustibles.
Do not cut where the atmosphere may contain flammable
◆
dust, gas, or liquid vapors (such as gasoline).
Do not cut pressurized cylinders, pipes, or vessels.
◆
Do not position unit on, near, or over combustible surfaces.
◆
Remove all combustibles, such as butane lighters or matches,
◆
from your body and clothing prior to cutting.
After completion of work, inspect area to ensure it is free of
◆
sparks, glowing embers, and flames.
