Building instructions
You will need the following tools to complete the model: household scissors, balsa
knife (Order No. 986), cross-point screwdriver (Order No. 810), miniature electric drill,
1.2 mm / 3.0 mm Ø twist drills, 2.0 mm / 2.5 mm A/F allen keys, flat-nose pliers, side-
cutters, abrasive paper.
Adhesives
Suitable adhesives:
Graupner cyano-acrylate ("cyano"), Order No. 5821
Graupner cyano-acrylate activator, Order No. 953.150
UHU-plus schnellfest (fast-setting epoxy), Order No. 962
Adhesive tape, Order No. 693.1
UHU-Schraubensicher (thread-lock fluid), Order No. 952
Use UHU plus schnellfest for all joints unless stated otherwise; roughen all
joint surfaces thoroughly using abrasive paper.
Installing the electric motor
Attach the motor bulkhead (1) to the gearbox using the screws (3) and washers (4).
Trial-fit the motor bulkhead in the fuselage; note that the motor cables must be at the
top, and the front face of the bulkhead should be recessed inside the front edge of
the fuselage by about 3 mm. Glue the bulkhead in the fuselage using UHU
schnellfest; fit the folding propeller on the gearbox shaft to check alignment: the
motor downthrust and sidethrust are correct when the trailing edge of the spinner
backplate lines up accurately with the front face of the fuselage, with an even 1 mm
clearance gap between the spinner and the fuselage.
Clamp the cables to the speed controller using the cable tie (17), as shown in the
illustration, then fit the power system assembly in the fuselage and screw the motor
to the nose bulkhead once more using parts (3) and (4).
Installing the elevator servo
The illustration shows the elevator servo output arm cut down and drilled to suit the
steel pushrod (1.2 mm Ø).
The picture shows the elevator servo components prepared for installation: the
elevator servo is fitted with a 500 mm extension lead, and the final 5 mm of the
pushrod (5) is bent at right-angles.
The next photo shows the elevator servo glued in the fin (bottom of picture parallel to
fuselage datum). Open the fin at the top for the pushrod (5), then fit the servo and the
pushrod in the circular recess. Glue the servo in place inside the recess, tape it in
place while the resin is hardening, then fit the plywood pushrod retainer block (20).
