Dust extraction
WARNING: It is recommended to connect the tool to a suitable vacuum cleaner or workshop
dust extraction system, especially if the sanding dust contains harmful substances, such as particles
from old paint, varnish, surface coatings etc. Always dispose of harmful dust according to laws and
regulations.
WARNING: Take special care to guard against harmful and toxic dusts when sanding lead-based
painted surfaces, woods and metals, particularly if you are unsure about the exact substances
involved. All persons entering the work area must wear a mask specially designed for protection
against the toxic dust and fumes involved. Children and pregnant women MUST NOT enter the work
area. DO NOT eat, drink or smoke in the work area.
• This tool is designed to be connected to a household vacuum cleaner hose or workshop dust
extraction system. This is the preferred and most effective method of dust extraction
1. Install the Dust Port Adaptor (21) on to the Dust Port (11). (Fig. III)
2. Attach a suitable vacuum hose to the Dust Port Adaptor
3. Switch the extraction device 'ON' before switching the tool 'ON' .
4. When finished working with the tool, switch the tool 'OFF' first, then the extraction system.
WARNING: Using the tool without vacuum suitable dust extraction may expose the operator
to harmful dust, and may lead to a build-up of dust on internal components, shortening the tool's
service life. Such damage is not covered by warranty.
Operation
WARNING: This sander must NOT be used for wet sanding.
WARNING: Always use adequate protective equipment, including eye protection, respiratory and
hearing protection, when working with this tool.
WARNING: DO NOT touch the sanding accessories whilst the tool is switched 'ON' or in motion.
WARNING: Position the cord clear of any moveable parts of the tool. If you lose control, the cord
may be cut or snagged and your hand or arm may be pulled into the rotating parts on the tool.
Note: ALWAYS use clamps to secure your workpiece to the workbench wherever possible.
IMPORTANT: Regularly clean the tool's Motor Vents (3). The motor's fan will draw the dust inside the
housing and excessive accumulation of powdered metal or wood dust may cause electrical hazards.
Switching ON & OFF
WARNING: DO NOT switch the tool 'ON' or 'OFF' whilst under load, as this will greatly decrease
the service life of the ON/OFF Switch (5).
1. Connect the plug to the power supply
2. Hold the tool securely with both hands, one on the Main Handle (6) and one on the main body of
the tool to provide full control while operating.
3. Ensure the tool is not in contact with the workpiece before switching 'ON' .
4. Toggle the ON/OFF Switch (5) to the 'I' position, to switch the tool 'ON' .
5. Toggle the ON/OFF Switch into the '0' position, to switch the tool 'OFF.
WARNING: Lift the tool off the workpiece before switching 'OFF' .
WARNING: Always wait until the tool has stopped completely before putting it down. Always
disconnect from the power supply after use.
Adjusting the speed
• The speed of this tool can be adjusted using the Variable Speed Dial (4)
1. Turn the Variable Speed Dial to a higher setting, to increase speed.
2. Turn the Variable Speed Dial to a lower setting, to decrease speed.
Note: Adjust speed to best suit the work carried out, and to adapt to material requirements.
Also refer to the Sanding Sleeve or Flap Wheel manufacturer's instructions, with regards to
speed selection.
Sanding
• The Detail Flap Wheel (17) with its narrow sanding surface is ideal for intricate sanding in places
that are difficult to access.
• The Flap Wheel (20) is ideal for shaped or contoured surfaces.
• The Sanding Sleeve (19) is ideal for flat surfaces or very lightly shaped surfaces. It has no ability
to shape to the material being sanded.
• Move the tool over the surface of the workpiece, applying an even, moderate pressure until you
reach the desired surface finish.
WARNING: Excessive pressure does not lead to a faster removal of material; it will, however, lead
to premature wear of the Sanding Sleeve or Flap Wheel, and may cause damage to the tool.
• Both sanding performance and quality depend mainly on the choice of the correct Sanding
Sleeve or Flap Wheel.
• Scratches on the workpiece after sanding can indicate a worn or damaged sanding accessory, or
the wrong grit of sanding accessory. Refer to the 'Selecting the correct sanding grit' section of
this manual.

Maintenance
WARNING: ALWAYS disconnect from the power supply before carrying out any inspection,
maintenance or cleaning.
General inspection
• Regularly check that all the fixing screws are tight. They may vibrate loose over time
• Inspect the supply cord of the tool, prior to each use, for damage or wear. Repairs should be
carried out by an authorised Silverline service centre. This advice also applies to extension cords
used with this tool.
Cleaning
WARNING: ALWAYS wear protective equipment including eye protection and gloves when
cleaning this tool.
• Keep your tool clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts to wear quickly, and
shorten the device's service life
• Clean the body of your machine with a soft brush, or dry cloth
• Never use caustic agents to clean plastic parts. If dry cleaning is not sufficient, a mild detergent
on a damp cloth is recommended
• Water must never come into contact with the tool
• Ensure the tool is thoroughly dry before using it
• If available, use clean, dry, compressed air to blow through the ventilation holes
(where applicable)
Brushes
• Over time the carbon brushes inside the motor may become worn
• Excessively worn brushes may cause loss of power, intermittent failure, or visible sparking
• If you suspect that the brushes may be worn, have them replaced at an authorised Silverline
service centre
