Function of the ceiling-mounted motion detector
The PIR sensor integrated in the ceiling-mounted motion detector responds to tem-
perature changes within the detection range, e.g. if a person or an animal, with a
temperature different from the background, enters the detection range.
To ensure optimum detection, the ceiling-mounted motion detector must be placed so
that the object to be detected does not approach the ceiling-mounted motion detector
directly but rather passes through the detection range from left to right or vice versa.
Keep this in mind when installing the product.
The PIR range specified in the "Technical data"
chapter is achievable in practice only under
optimal conditions.
It should also be noted that the detection ran-
ge is tapered, which results in appropriate re-
strictions on detection performance.
If a person or an animal enters the detection range (see picture above), then the cei-
ling-mounted motion detector is triggered only when the heat difference to the back-
ground is sufficiently large.
The range for detecting motion is determined by several factors:
• The ceiling-mounted motion detector's installation height
• Temperature difference between the moving object and the background (ambient)
• The size of the object
• The distance of the object from the ceiling-mounted motion detector
• Direction and speed of the movement
• Ambient temperature
After switching on the mains voltage, it takes about 30 seconds until the PIR sensor
in the ceiling-mounted motion detector has adjusted itself to the background tempe-
rature and is able to recognise changes in temperature within the detection range.
Detection through glass (e.g. a window) is theoretically not possible.
Connection
Connect the power cables with the appro-
priate terminal screws:

Installation
Pay attention to the information in chapter "Preparations for installation"!
• Fasten the ceiling-mounted motion detector with two
screws and plugs to the room ceiling.
Use screws and plugs that are suitable for the surface.
Pay attention when drilling/tightening the
screws that no power, gas or water pipes are
damaged!
Make sure that the mains cables are not
pinched or damaged!
• After configuring the controls (see next section), mount
the cover ring and lock it by turning clockwise.
• The detection range can be restricted by covering the
diffusion panel of the ceiling-mounted motion detector
with opaque adhesive tape.
Controls on the ceiling-mounted motion detector
• Setting the on-time (control dial "TIME")
Using this control dial, you can set the switch-on time for the powered device con-
nected. Turning the control dial counter clockwise, to the left, shortens the on-time;
turning it to the right lengthens it.
If a new motion is detected during the on-time, the time for the on-time starts again.
• Setting the brightness adjustment (control dial "LUX")
This control dial allows the switching threshold to be set, i.e. the ambient brightness
at which the ceiling-mounted motion detector is activated.
A turn to the left in a counterclockwise direction activates the ceiling motion detec-
tor only when it is dark; while turning it to the right in a clockwise direction towards
the sun icon activates the detector when it there still is light.
Operation
As already explained in the chapter "Function of the ceiling-mounted motion detec-
tor", the PIR sensor in the ceiling-mounted motion detector responds to temperature
changes in the detection range.
When a temperature change is detected, the relay is activated and switches on the
connected power consumer for the set time. If new motion is detected during the on-
time, the on-time duration starts once again; the consumer stays switched on.
When a temperature change is no longer detected, the connected consumer is swit-
ched off.
Function test
If you want to perform a function test after installation, proceed as follows:
• Turn the control knob "TIME" all the way to the left (anticlockwise) to select the
shortest switching time.
• Turn the control dial "LUX" all the way to the right (clockwise) towards the sun
symbol.
• Cross the detection range. When the PIR sensor detects a temperature variation in
the detection range, the powered device is switched on for a few seconds and then
switched off again (unless there are temperature variations).
Maintenance and care
The ceiling-mounted motion detector is maintenance-free. For this reason, you should
never open it or take it apart (except for the installation described in this manual).
Maintenance or repairs may only be performed by qualified personnel.
Occasionally, clean the hemispherical diffusion panel on the ceiling-mounted motion
detector from dust or sediments; only use a dry, clean and soft cloth.
Disposal
Dispose of an unserviceable product in accordance with the relevant statu-
tory regulations.
