Maintenance and Adjustments

We recommend contacting an authorized dealer to perform
all maintenance and adjustments.
WARNING
result in fire or electric shock. Unintentional start-up can
result in entanglement, traumatic amputation, or laceration.
Before performing adjustments or repairs:
• Disconnect battery at negative terminal (only engines
with electric start).
• Use only correct tools.
• Do not tamper with governor spring, links, or other parts
to increase engine speed.
• Replacement parts must be of the same design and
installed in the same position as the original parts. Other
parts may not perform as well, may damage the unit,
and may result in injury.
• Do not strike the flywheel with a hammer or hard object
because the flywheel may shatter during operation.
Every 8 Hours or Daily
Check safety interlock system
Clean debris off tractor and mower deck
Clean debris from engine compartment
Every 25 Hours or Annually *
Clean transmission oil cooler
Check transmission oil level
Check tire pressure
Check mower blade stopping time
Check tractor and mower for loose hardware
Check front axle oil level **
Every 50 Hours or Annually *
Clean battery and cables
Check tractor brakes
Every 250 Hours or Annually *
Change transmission oil and filter
Check tractor brakes
Every Fall and Spring
Check mower deck gear box oil
See Dealer Annually
Lubricate tractor and mower
Check mower blades ***
See separate Engine Operator's Manual for engine
maintenance information.
* Whichever comes first.
** 4WD models only.
*** Check blades more often in regions with sandy soils or
high dust conditions.
Unintentional sparking can
Check Mower Blade Stopping Time
WARNING If the mower blade does not come to a
complete stop within 5 seconds, the clutch must be adjusted.
Do not operate the machine until the proper adjustment has
been performed by an authorized dealer. Check the mower
blade for proper function. See Safety Interlock System Tests.
The blade should stop rotating in 5 seconds or less after
moving the blade control to the OFF position.
Change Engine Oil
Refer to the Engine Manual.
Service Air Filter
Refer to the Engine Manual.
Clean Debris Out of Engine Compartment
WARNING Keep unit free of grass, leaves, and other
debris. Flammable debris many be ignited by hot engine
parts causing serious injury or property damage.
• Stop the engine and allow the unit to cool. Remove all debris
from the engine compartment. Be sure all cooling fins,
screens, and areas around the exhaust system are clean.
Clean Intake Screen
Keep air intake screen clean. Clean all debris off the lower
intake screen.
Clean Transmission Oil Cooler
The transmission oil cooler (A, Figure 20) is located behind
the engine and should be cleaned with compressed air at
regular intervals or if dirty.
