2.4. Mounting the interface
The interface is suitable for installation in a 19"-rack, but can also be installed as a freestanding appliance on a horizontal base thanks to the rubber legs.
When mounting the appliance in a 19" rack, you can remove the provided rubber legs. Apply lateral pressure to the legs to remove them from the appliance.
Connecting the interface to the external unit:
There are 2 possibilities:
- Connect the external unit to the far left connector of the interface ('Door').
- If you use an underground cable (e.g. ATCUG), insert it through the opening at the back of the interface and connect it to the screw connector.

Connecting the interface to the video splitter or switcher:
- The right connector ('SO out') is the interface output. Connect this output to the input of the splitter (16-670 or 16-672) or to one of the switcher inputs (16-676-01) if the installation contains several external units.
Connecting the electric locks to the interface:
- Connect the electric locks as shown in the figure above. Attention: If you are using a DC power supply to power your locks, you have to place a neutral diode over the contacts.
Setting the address of the interface:
- Set the address of the interface on the DIP switch. This address has to be identical to the address of the connected surface mounting external unit or doorbell (with intelligence).
Use of the terminal resistor
- In an installation, you always have to activate 2 terminal resistors (switch DIP switch 4 to ON): 1 in an addressable bell push button (or surface mounting external unit) and 1 in a 16-651. If the installation contains several
external units, you activate the terminal resistor in the farthest external unit. In case of the video switcher, you connect the 16-651 with active terminal resistor to input SO1.
If you have correctly connected the 16-651, mount the lid. Use all screws provided (10 pieces) to guarantee the stability in case of installation in a 19" rack.
3. PROGRAMMING
Programming the system consists of 2 parts. First, the communication has to be programmed. Make sure you know to which internal lines of the telephone exchange the interface(s) and internal units are connected. Afterwards,
the video image has to be programmed, so the image is activated in case of a call.
3.1. Programming the communication
- Call the number of the internal line to which the interface is connected. Follow the instructions of the speech-controlled menu for programming the external unit. For an overview of the menu, see the table below. If the interface
is called for the first time after it has been taken into use, you have to choose the operating language: NL/FR/EN/DE.
- You can go back one step at any time during programming by pushing ✱. Confirm programming by pushing #.
- Push ✱ or pick up the receiver to exit programming mode.
- When entering the speech menu, you have the following possibilities:
Controlling the relays / relay locks:
- Control the relays/relay locks with keys 1 and 2 of every internal unit that is connected to the telephone exchange and that can generate DTMF tones (the videophone, another telephone or cellphone). A voice confirms which
lock has been opened.
Activating an external unit:
- You can activate the external unit without the bell being rung. For this purpose, make a call to the interface via the telephone exchange and switch on the door telephone (key 3). Camera, loudspeaker and microphone are
activated. If you have connected several cameras, you can view the images one by one. Repeatedly press key 3.
Day and night setting:
- Press key 4 to switch between day and night setting.
'Ring-and-come-in' function:
- (De)activate the 'ring-and-come-in' function for lock 1 or lock 2 with key 5. If this function is activated, the lock is automatically activated if the bell is rung. The time between ringing the bell and opening the lock can be set
from 0 to 30s. (fabric setting: 10s.). This function is deactivated if the system is in night setting.
Setting call numbers:
- You can connect a max. of 6 bell push buttons (standard). Every bell has a max. of 3 call numbers. If the system is in day setting, the programmed numbers are called one by one. You can set the reroute time from 10 to 100s.
(see later on in programming; standard setting: 30s.). If the system is in night setting, only the third number is called. Every call number is made up of max. 19 digits, which enables you to call international numbers as well.
Conversation time:
- You can set the conversation time between 10 and 180s. (fabric setting: 60s.).
Activation time of the locks:
- You can set the activation time of the locks between 0 and 100s. (standard setting 5s.).
Reroute time:
- If the bell is rung, the telephone on which the number is programmed rings. You can set the reroute time to go to the second programmed telephone number between 10 and 120s.
Welcome message:
- You can set a welcome message the visitor hears as he rings the bell. You can record this message yourself.
Operating language:
- You can modify the choice of operating language.
Fabric settings:
- You can return to the fabric settings.
