Before Use
Checking the adjustment of the riving
knife
The riving knife 15 must always be used for safety
reasons. The riving knife prevents the saw blade
from becoming jammed when making lengthwise
cuts.
The adjustment takes place at maximum cutting
depth.
Loosen screw 14, adjust the riving knife 15 and re-
tighten the screw.

Cutting Depth Adjustment
Loosen the winged screw 13 and reposition the
base plate 19:
Raise
Larger cutting depth
Lowe
Smaller cutting depth
Set the desired depth on the cutting depth scale 10.
Re-tighten the winged screw 13.
To achieve an optimum cut, the saw blade should
not protrude more than 3 mm below the material.
Cutting Angle Adjustment
Loosen the winged screws 6 and 12.
Tilt the machine to the side until the desired cutting
angle is set on the scale 7.
Re-tighten the winged screws.
Note: For mitre cuts, the cutting depth does not cor-
respond to the value indicated on the cutting depth
scale 10.

Cutting Marks
The cutting mark 0° indicates the position of the
saw blade for right angle cutting.
The cutting mark 45° indicates the position of the
saw blade for 45°cutting.
Initial Operation
Always use the correct supply voltage: The pow-
er supply voltage must match the information quot-
ed on the tool identification plate. Tools with a rating
of 230 V can also be connected to a 220 V supply.
Switching On:
Press the safety button 1.
Press the on-off switch 2 and hold depressed.
Note: The on-off switch 2 cannot be locked on.
Switching Off:
Release the on-off switch 2.
Speed Preselection (GKS 54 CE)
With the speed control 4, the speed can be continu-
ously preselected. The required speed depends on
the saw blade used and the material to be worked
(see saw blade table).
Constant Speed Electronics (GKS 54 CE)
The constant speed electronics maintains the speed
between no load and load nearly constant and en-
sures uniform feeding which produces an even
cutting edge.
Temperature Dependent Overload
Protection (GKS 54 CE)
When the machine is overloaded during sawing, the
motor stops and starts again only after the feeding
pressure is relieved.
When the machine is warmed by use, the tempera-
ture dependent overload protection reacts earlier as
a result.
Starting Current Limiting (GKS 54 CE)
As a result of the smooth starting of the machine, a
16 A fuse is adequate.
