General safety notes
Be aware of the following general safety notes and the special safety notes in other
chapters of these Instructions for Use.
2.1 Warnings
• Enhance Multi Finishers and Polishers are designed for use with water. As with
any rotary instrument, heat will build up with prolonged contact. Use at a speed
between 5,000 and 10,000 rpm maximum with light intermittent pressure. Higher
speed may result in heat buildup and may endanger the stability of the instru-
ments causing danger to user and patient. Heat buildup may cause pulp inflam-
mation.
• Care should be taken to have good control on any rotary instrument to protect
patients from injury. Contact with soft tissues (skin, gingiva, mucosa) may result
in injuries. If injury occurs, ensure appropriate medical care.
• Dental professionals should wear breathing protection (surgical mask). Dental
professionals and patients should wear protective eyewear.
2.2 Precautions
1. This product is intended to be used as specifically outlined in the Instructions for
Use. Any use of this product inconsistent with the Instructions for Use is at the
discretion and sole responsibility of the practitioner.
2. Rotating instruments have to be disinfected, cleaned, dried and sterilized prior to
the first application on the patient and immediately after every use.
3. Use in a well-ventilated area. Avoid inhaling airborne particulates.
4. Insert the instruments as deeply as possible without excessive use of force into
the chuck and check to ensure that they are secure.
5. The hand piece must be in proper working condition.
6. The use of an adequate supply of water spray of a minimum of 50 ml/min on the
working part is necessary over 1,500 rpm to ensure reliable cooling of the material
being worked on and to prevent damage of the pulp.
7. Moistening of the surfaces to be prepared must not be impaired by an incorrect
suction technique: Deflection of the coolant jet can cause heat related damage.
8. Protect adjacent restorations from accidental contact with rotating disc, cup or
point.
9. Excessive speeds while using instruments with overly large heads endanger the
stability of the instruments.
10. To maintain the longevity of these instruments, careful preparation with low con-
tact pressure is important: the recommended contact pressure range is 0.3 - 2 N
(30 - 200 p).
11. Avoid tilting, levering, or blocking the instruments up by using too much contact
pressure (increased danger of fracture).
12. Immediately remove any instruments that are damaged, bent or no longer run
concentrically.
13. The use of inappropriate disinfectants and/or prolonged disinfectant times can
result in corrosion (increased danger of breakage) and discoloration of the instru-
ments. Do not use alkaline or aldehyde containing disinfectants. Do not place in
alcohol.
