Symptoms of a winter depression
Fatigue
Excessive need to sleep
Dejectedness
Trouble concentrating
Lots of sleep, but not feeling rested.
Irritable
Increase in weight
Less desire to go out
The complaints disappear in the spring and summer and return in the fall and
winter.
The winter blues consists of having several of the above symptoms.
Complaints can arise because of a decrease in sunlight. By using light therapy
these complaints are lessened or may even disappear. Use the FW-400 for at
least 2 weeks to a month. It's recommended to use the FW-400 throughout
the entire year.
Especially when becoming older your day and night rhythm changes which
leads to this target group getting insufficient daylight. Complaints that may
arise are fatigue during the day, irregular sleep, drowsiness in the early eve-
ning and lying awake at night. The solution is to apply light therapy for 15 to
30 minutes in the early evening. The sleeping time is then moved to a later
moment of time.
Jetlag means the disturbance of the awake-sleep rhythm. This occurs when
somebody quickly moves to another place on earth with a different time zone.
This usually happens when taking a flight to go on holiday.
When flying to the West, use the FW-400 in the evening.
When flying to the East, use the FW-400 in the morning.
The jetlag will last a lot shorter.
Of course, remember to bring the correct travel plug.
Having a burn-out can be determined by having little or no energy and moti-
vation when at work. Symptoms of a burn-out are:
Exhaustion (serious fatigue)
Cynicism
A negative self image
Decreased competence
Light therapy allows you to restore the disturbed energy storage en
counteract emotional exhaustion.
The best time for applying light therapy in case of a burn-out is in the
morning.
