Installation
When in doubt about how to install the device correctly, please contact an expert or a
specialist workshop and let them do the installation!
Incorrect installation can cause damage to the plug-in card and also to your computer and
all connected devices.
Switch off the computer in which the plug-in card is to be installed and all connected
devices and disconnect all devices from the mains voltage, pull the mains plug! Switching
the device off via the ON/OFF switch is not sufficient!
1.
Replace the panel of the PCIe card, if required:
-
Carefully loosen the two screws.
-
Replace the panel. Screw the panel on again.
2.
Open the housing of your computer and carefully take off the housing cover.
3.
Locate a free PCIe slot, remove the respective slot cover and insert the PCIe card into the slot. Screw the
plug-in card tight, make sure it is seated properly in the PCIe slot!
4.
To get the maximum current output, connect a power cable from the power supply unit of your computer to
the PCIe card at CN1. To supply power to the PCIe card, you can either connect a SATA or a 4-pin floppy
plug to the respective terminals.
5.
Close the computer housing.
6.
Reconnect your computer and monitor with the mains voltage and switch on all devices.
7.
If your computer does not start correctly, switch it off immediately and check all the settings and cable
connections.
Before you open housing of the computer again, it needs to be disconnected from the
mains voltage, see above!

Tips & Notes
USB 3.0 devices are hot swappable, they can be plugged in and unplugged during operation. This means
that you do not have to switch off your computer, when you want to plug in or unplug devices (with other
Version 04/12
interfaces this can cause damage, e.g. if you connect or disconnect a PS/2 mouse during operation).
However, when data is being transmitted via the USB port, e.g. when data is written to a USB hard disk, and
you unplug the USB plug, this will cause data loss and it may even corrupt the file system!
An icon with an arrow is displayed in the menu bar for some USB 3.0 devices (e.g. external hard disks).
With this option you can disconnect the USB device from the PC, i.e. instruct the PC to close files that are
still open.
USB 3.0 ports naturally support USB 2.0/1.1 also. Therefore, normal "slow" USB devices can also be
connected. Yet, they will not work faster.
If you wish to operate the USB 3.0 devices using a USB hub, a USB 3.0 hub is required. With a normal
USB 2.0/1.1 hub, the High Speed operation of USB 3.0 does not function. The USB 3.0 devices which are
connected would then function in a slow USB 2.0/1.1 mode.
You will need special "USB 3.0 cables" for High Speed USB 3.0 operation. Conventional USB cables can
only give a maximum transfer rate of 480 Mbps.
If transmission problems occur during operation of USB 3.0 devices, you can try using a USB cable which
has been tested in USB 3.0 operation ("USB 3.0-certified").
USB operation is not possible in the Safe Mode of Windows. Therefore, USB keyboards/mice do not
normally work. However, current motherboards offer support for this (called "legacy USB support" for
example or similar in the BIOS).
To make use of this option, it might be necessary to connect the USB keyboard/mouse directly to a USB
port of the computer and not to a USB hub.
Use the latest version of your operating system. Otherwise, data might get lost when using larger hard
disks.
7.
Disposal
Electronic devices are recyclable waste and must not be disposed of in the household waste.
At the end of its service life, dispose of the product according to the relevant statutory regulations.
