SECTION A2: INTRODUCTION TO THE TROPHON EPR

A2.1 Intended Use

The trophon EPR together with the disinfectant cartridge is a high level instrument-grade disinfectant
system designed to high level disinfect validated ultrasound probes according to the specified
processes outlined in this manual. Do NOT use this device for any application other than its
expressed purpose.
The trophon EPR is NOT intended to reprocess single-use devices or pre-clean ultrasound probes.
Chemical Indicator use is required with every disinfection cycle.

A2.2 Disinfection Process

At the start of the high level disinfection cycle, the trophon EPR creates an aerosol of concentrated
hydrogen peroxide. This is distributed over the exposed surface of the probe providing thorough, high
level disinfection of the shaft and the handle of the probe. The trophon then breaks down the
hydrogen peroxide into small amounts of oxygen and water which is evaporated into the atmosphere.
During a purge, oxygen is vented into the atmosphere and water is collected in the waste container
inside the trophon (maximum capacity 150ml).
The contact conditions are fixed cycle parameters that the end user cannot modify.

A2.3 Disinfection History Log

A disinfection history log can be downloaded from your trophon EPR and printed onto to a PC or
laptop via trophon Connect software (optional accessory - available for certain trophon variants only)
or provided by your service centre during scheduled preventative maintenance services.

A2.4 Validated Probes and Disinfectants

For details of probes that can be used in the trophon EPR refer to:
trophon EPR Validated Probes List at the Nanosonics website.
Use only trophon disinfectant cartridges when high level disinfecting with the trophon EPR.

A2.5 Training

Before setting up or using your trophon EPR, ensure that all users:
Are trained in safety procedures and potential hazards, as outlined in this manual.
Visit Trophon-EPR/Login on the Nanosonics website to complete the online training module
and receive trophon EPR certification.

A2.6 Environment and User Profile

The trophon EPR is designed for use in healthcare facilities to high level disinfect ultrasound
transducers under the control of trained healthcare professionals.
The disinfection cartridge, chemical indicator, and trophon EPR system are designed to be used with
minimal personal protective equipment (gloves only), and in standard workplace or clinical settings,
including at the patient point-of-care. Special ventilation and other safety precautions are not required
when used as per the manufacturer's instructions.

A2.7 Accessories

Accessories* designed for use with the trophon EPR include:
trophon Connect
trophon Printer & Label Roll
