Navigation
With the five blue keys in the shape of a cross, you can navigate or browse through the text. These arrows
are grouped on the right-hand side. With the round key in the middle you can start or pause the reading
out. With the left arrow key you go backwards through the text, with the right arrow key forwards. With the
top and bottom arrow key you select the various navigation options. The various options are as follows:
Spelling: The reader navigates by the letter. For spaces between words you hear nothing.
Word by word: The reader navigates by the word.
Sentence by sentence: The reader navigates by the sentence. A sentence is determined by full
stops. The reader thus reads from full stop to full stop. This means that the reader may stop in the
middle of a sentence, when there is an abbreviation with a point after it for example.
Line by line: The reader navigates by the line. A line is a series of words and sentences on the
same line from left to right in a text.
Block reading: The reader navigates by the block. A block is a part of the text that is considered as
a unit by the reader. It can be a title, a column, a sub-column or another text block.
Page by page: The reader navigates by the page. Thus, you can consult the previous scanned
page. In order to repeat the same page, you must first select page reading by the page with the top
or bottom button and then press on the middle button for a while in order to repeat the page.
By pressing the middle button for a while you can repeat the current word, sentence, etc.
A few comments
You always get spoken feedback when you press any key. However, when reading out no help
messages are spoken.
You can also connect headphones. The input for this is on the right-hand side of the operating
panel.
Depending on the grey values, text in drawings or photos will not be read.
You must flatten out crinkled pages. If necessary place a magazine or book on the page to press it
flat.
When using thick books the cover can be left open. It is only necessary to close the cover if there is
too much incident light or the page is crinkled.
You can scan a new page while the previous one is still being read out.
If you switch off the reader, the last text is saved. This is immediately available when you switch the
reader on again, and this by pressing the round key in the middle of the navigation keys. If you scan
a new page after starting, then the previous texts are deleted.
If a number of languages are installed, you can change the language by pressing on one of the
volume keys for a while.
Text in columns is read properly by the reader, except if the title of the article is in the middle of the
text, for example, instead of the top. If when reading a sighted person has to look for the
continuation of the text, a reading machine will often make mistakes.
If you connect a USB stick or MP3 player to the reader, the reader will ask to save it. If you confirm,
a text, MP3 file (spoken text) and a photo is saved of all the scanned texts. You can use this feature
to listen to the text elsewhere or to save a text or photo on a PC.
You can delete the current texts on the reader by pressing the selection buttons for the navigation
mode together, i.e. the top and bottom arrow.
