FITTING INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Remove the floor mat from the vehicle floor and the rear plastic panel.
Remove if present the luggage net eyes and brackets from the rear
panel.
Saw the rectangular sections out of the brackets as shown in fig.1.
Remove the bumper and take the brackets out of the bumper. The bum-
per brackets will not be refitted. All holes are already present in the vehi-
cle and sealed off with a sticker. Remove the stickers from the fastening
points.
2. Slide brackets A and B in the left and right chassis, as shown in fig. 2.
Place back plates C such that holes E and F are over the corresponding
holes in the vehicle floor. Fit two M10x110 bolts with the rectangular
brackets shown in fig.1 and flat washers at points E, finger-tight. Fit two
M10x30 bolts with flat washers at points F, finger-tight. Fit one M10x110
bolt with double back plates and nut at point G, finger-tight. Fit one
M10x110 bolt with back plate (on vehicle floor) at point H, finger-tight.
On the Quattro models, there is no threaded hole on the left, and con-
sequently two back plates with nut should be fitted (finger-tight).
3. Fit the tow bar as shown in fig. 3. Fit two M12x40 bolts with flat washers
at points I and tighten them to the values shown in the table. Fit the
bumper brackets K and L supplied with the tow bar in the bumper, as
shown in fig. 3 and the sketch, and fasten these with the original
fasteners.
4. Saw a section out of the underside of the plastic bumper, as shown in
fig. 4. Saw a section out of the aluminium inner section of the bumper,

as shown in fig. 5.
A curved dotted line is shown in the bumper inner section next to the
arrow (bumper centre). Saw the rectangular section out as shown in the
remaining figs. 5. Refit the bumper and fasten using two M10 nuts with
flat washers at points M. Fit the ball hitch and fasten using one
M12x70/21.2 bolt and one M12x75/26.2 bolt with socket plate, flat was-
hers and nuts. After straightening the bumper, tighten all nuts and bolts
to the values shown in the table. An extra adjustment for the bumper is
available behind holes O. These holes can be reached through the
holes in the rear panel. Refit the luggage net eyes and brackets and
bend them into the correct position. Refit the floor mat.
NOTE:
* The dealer should be consulted for possible necessary adjustment(s)
"of the vehicle".
* Remove the insulating material from the contact area of the fitting points.
* All bolts are quality 8.8 - nuts 8. or when mentioned in fitting instructions
10.9 / 10.
* Don't forget the spring- and plain washers.
* Please consult your car dealer, or owners manual for the max. permissi-
ble towing mass.
* It is recommendable to retighten all fixing bolts and nuts after the towbar
has been in use for some 1000 km/600 miles.
* Do not drill through brake-or fuellines.
* Remove (if present) the plastic caps from the spot welding nuts.
