Never allow children or people unfamiliar with
f
these instructions to use the tool. Local regula-
tions may restrict the age of the operator. When
not in use, store the tool out of reach of children.
Before use check the supply and extension cord
f
for signs of damage or ageing. If the cord becomes
damaged during use, disconnect the cord from the

HEDGE TRIMMER SAFETY WARNINGS (43 288)
Keep all parts of the body away from the cutter
f
blade. Do not remove cut material nor hold ma-
terial to be cut when blades are moving. Make
sure the tool is switched off and unplugged
when clearing jammed material. A moment of
inattention while operating the hedge trimmer
may result in serious personal injury.
Carry the hedge trimmer by the handle with
f
the cutter blade stopped. When transporting
or storing the hedge trimmer always fit the
cutting device cover. Proper handling of the
hedge trimmer will reduce possible personal injury
from the cutter blades.
Hold the power tool by insulated gripping sur-
f
faces only, because the cutter blade may con-
tact hidden wiring or its own cord. Cutter blades
contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal
parts of the power tool "live" and could give the
operator an electric shock.
Keep cable away from cutting area. During op-
f
eration the cable may be hidden in shrubs and can
be accidentally cut by the blade.
ADDITIONAL SAFETY WARNINGS (HEDGE

Never grasp the blade of the hedge-cutter.
ƒ
Never cut a hedge while people, especially chil-
ƒ
dren or pets, are nearby.
Do not operate the hedge-cutter when barefoot
ƒ
or wearing open sandals, always wear substan-

Thoroughly inspect the area where the hedge-cut-
ƒ
ter is to be used and remove all wires and other
foreign objects.
Prior to operation, check cutter blades, blade
ƒ
bolts and cutter assembly for wear or damage.
Do not operate with a damaged or excessively
worn cutting device.
Know how to stop the hedge-cutter quickly in an
ƒ
emergency.
Before operation check the safe double locking
ƒ
function of the blade swivel mechanism. The
blade can suddenly fold down, if unlocked and
comes into contact with a branch.
Cut a hedge only in daylight or in good artificial
ƒ
light.
Never operate the hedge-cutter with defective
ƒ
guards or without the guard in place.
Always ensure all handles and guards supplied
ƒ
are fitted when using the hedge-cutter. Never
attempt to use an incomplete hedge-cutter or
one with an unauthorized modification.
Never hold the hedge-cutter by the guard.
ƒ
While operating the hedge-cutter always be
ƒ
sure of a safe and secure operating position at
all times, especially when using steps or a ladder.
Always be aware of your surroundings and stay
ƒ
alert for possible hazards that you may not hear
whilst operating the hedge-cutter.
Remove the plug from the socket:
ƒ
Before checking, clearing a blockage or work-
y

y
hedge-cutter for damage and make repairs as
